Wow. The truck driver reported that Harry Potter was still playing on the sound system when he went to check on the driver. The guy was watching a movie on his video screen at the time of the accident. He also said the Tesla was going a "high rate of speed".
I would certainly like to know more about the accident.

Well, trucks cannot always avoid being in the way, such as those backing into lots that require them to block all lanes of a street momentarily, or even some left turns that are near corners where they can't see oncoming traffic if it's flying around that corner just after the truck begins turning. So, if an approaching vehicle cannot recognize this or exercise due caution, it isn't necessarily a slow moving vehicle's fault for being slow moving. Just as they seem to be saying it isn't an autonomous vehicle's fault for being autonomous, I'd call this a draw (except apparently it shouldn't have been in autonomous mode).
At the end of the day, I think I'll just avoid taking that left turn in particular (and go the long way around)...Last edited: Jul 1, 2016

My guess is Tesla driver was taking a snooze to his movie. And he didn't wake up from it. Trusted the car to alert him when it's far too early to put stock in that trust... it's like making a friend and giving him your bank account PIN within the first day. Takes someone real 'special'. :-/Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I take it you're unaware that those white armored vehicles are made in Virginia?Last edited: Jul 1, 2016

New details:
Just prior to the crash a woman reported she was driving 85 mph in the same direction as Mr. Brown and he passed her at a much higher rate of speed.
Instead of applying brakes, even after the impact caused the car to veer off the road it kept going and avoided a bank of trees, then attempted to steer around the telephone pole that stopped it.
The truck driver was making a left turn coming from the opposite direction. It's flat and straight, with plenty of room to see oncoming traffic.Big Don Thanks this. -
I don't care what technology is in use, there will still be some crashes, with people being hit or killed.
