Not enough information.
So you dont get to back, fine go to Company and find another trainer who will back you. I cannot tell you how many little back rows we dip into to give trainee a backing chance. Usually without others around.
Ive been threatened twice in my life by employers or officers of a company, both threats are to be taken seriously and usually result in a report to the State (Unemployment), backed by a police report to the Law and a instant quit wherever it might have happened. I don't care if your load is in Humdolt east of death valley, it's not my problem anymore mr threat. -
When I trained I got several students that had been through several trainers. And they were all very weak students.
The two students that I had that thought they were tough guys, I made clear I have no problem ripping their arm out of the socket and beating them to death with it, and they were welcome to try and do the same to me, and we would just leave the losers carcass out in the desert some place. No takers.
The trainer he has is not a good one. I say that because I can teach even the most mentally, physically, emotionally, psychology F/U people on this planet how to back, dock, and drive a truck. But you lose a lot of sleep.
A student that cannot back, you have to find a truck stop, and back, back, back, until the student is tired, there is a point of that as well. When he recovers ( never even attempted to do women, except for one girl I went through school with, that was married, that is an entire story unto itself, for which God still punishes me to this day ), you back some more.
The guy probably doesn't know how to teach backing. There were some receivers or shippers I backed at, even if the student was driving, because there was no time to F around. Usually by the end of the third week, I had slept a total 6 nights / days worth of sleep, and the student could set up and back adequately.
I had / have a non smoking truck, I stopped when I started driving truck. I've noticed that students that smoke are just much more natural truckers than the ones that don't. I don't know why, it is what it is.
Like I said, the students I got that were the basket case, been through two, one went through three, trainers were not strong players, I mean the one got on the truck with a basket of STINKY laundry & his CDL & medical card, lost his long form already, 0 money.
I don't know how to tell you to approach the backing issue, as I always had a plan for that.
I only ever got one guy that new how to read a map decently, and none ever knew the whole lower 48. I dunno, just always seemed when you got sent a trip you knew where the destination was, at least to me, so they would map study, sometimes for the whole three weeks, after their shift.
They all still did some stupid #### that I don't think I've ever done, even on the last day.
Don't know how you, I mean your friend is gonna pass the upgrade test if he can't back though. And if enough guys can't pass, that trainer won't remain one for long.Giuseppe Ventolucci, alghazi, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I had one student slip through the cracks. I watched him with a trainer long ago, and suddenly he had a truck.
To understand the situation, think of US 20 east of Buffalo NY, there is a town with a low clearance bridge in the town center banned to big trucks for a good reason, they don't fit. Bypassing this one requires about a 8 mile run south past cornfields then turn and run 20 miles and 8 miles back north to 20. That's that.
I return to yard and find this truck destroyed, the air dam (Shield) above the cab, a 1992 COE was destroyed, the exhaust system was destroyed and the suspension and wheels showed damage by running into a bridge. I wondered how he got back.
Anyhow I made the mistake of asking him what's going on with your rig? Tears, rivers of them followed by a stack of personal problems such as 8 dollars in pocket, fired and billed for the truck damage not to mention trailer and load that was destroyed. And for what? Bypassing restricted signs up there on that US 20.
Seriously you some kind of special stupid mr new trucker? Go home. No wonder.
That being said.
My first stupid thing as a new trucker was a bridge made of stone, hand laid round stone from the ground in US 15 in virginia roughly 4 miles north of Manassas and yea 12 miles south of the river crossing at Tuscarora. THAT bridge became weight restricted to 8 ton pending demolition and a installation of a new concrete bridge to last 50 years.
Little old me afraid to make the mandated and required left passed and onto the bridge in view of the VA trooper there on the site. 40 ton of course. It was a hour before he quit yelling, spittle and all.
At least he yelled. Not write tickets.Giuseppe Ventolucci, Lepton1 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
My gold medal newbie trucker was after I got my first lease truck, CRE, skirted I44 in Oklahoma, went south I think, I even looked at Atlas its been too long, but was on some highway where I had to drive in the on coming traffic lane to miss the out cropping of rocks in my lane that the roof of the trailer would not have cleared. Oklahoma trooper passes me going the opposite way, there's only the cliff on my side, and a stream below his. I'm going to myself " I'm so F busted."
Then here comes weight restricted bridge! Rolled over that. Was like 72K. Think it said 26T limit. Then the road widens out and its clear sailing. Bear never came after me. Paid the $40 ought dollars everytime there after. My heart was pounding so hard coming through that canyon lol.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I have the utmost respect for you guys who are GOOD trainers! I'd just never have the desire to do it. Oh yeah for the so called "trainers" that don't really train, I can't help but think that you will get what is coming to you, sooner or later. I'd like it to be sooner...

Wasn't a white road commode but my trainer had the same reach lol. After the crash course I was put between the two of them in the pride of the fleet. 77 IH transtar II with a 350 B model CAT and a 13.

I know you are just joking, but for those who don't know it, poisoning someone could probably lead to some pretty tight legal problems.

I have never threatened a trainee. Never gotten physical or violent in any way. But I have had a few trainees bow up and try to tell me how things were going to go. Guess who's way they went? Yep, my way. I'm not a tough guy or anything, but it is my truck. Trainees are a guest, there temporarily to learn what they need to know to get out. I like how everyone likes to play "bash the trainer" on these forums. A trainer is far more likely to get a POS trainee than the other way around. For one, just the averages prove that out. Average trainee will have 1 trainer in his career. Average trainer will have dozens or more trainees. Two, a company will usually get rid of a bad trainer when it comes to light. I've had bad trainees I tried to get rid of. The company said "we've got a lot invested in him, and empty trucks to fill. Just work with him some more". That was were I used to work. Not where I am now. Haven't had enough trainees here to get a bad one yet.
