How often must a dump truck get a new tare weight?
    Daily?
    Monthly?
I have a broker bringing me material and won't weigh his trucks daily, I know I'm getting screwed, he says he only has to do it monthly.
I had a 3 axle truck with sleeper and a steel frame, aluminum bed 3 axle trailer show up with a tare weight of 26,400 lbs carrying 30.5 ton and called BS, I asked for new tare weights and they refused.

No one weighs dump trucks daily around here.... Once a month at the pit I work at......

I guess that 26xxx tare is possible , but that is really light for a 6 axle dump trailer rig.

If you are paying for the material and/or transport then you should be able to get a new tare anytime you request it. We did a new tare every trip when I was doing drill mud because the heel built up in the trailer real quick, most of our customers demanded it. If they are refusing to do a tare on the way into the plant then it sounds like something shady is going on and I would refuse the deliveries until they comply.

Our local asphalt plant requires a tare every time you enter, no exceptions but the same plant will deliver stone with weeks old tare weights, but again stone is cheap compared to asphalt.

Assuming you don't have a scale of your own? I would try to find a local CAT scale or similar and have him weighed loaded and empty at your cost. It may be that you are getting the material that you're paying for. I've heard of guys (cough, cough) who would show a low tare to make the bills look good for DOT, but then still haul the billed amount of material...if that makss sense to ya?

It does sound fishy enough that I would want some verification...or find a new contractor.

Depends on the quarry/plant, some are once everyday some are once a week. You are getting his scale tickets everyday correct? That should have his tare, net, and gross listed on there. I drive a 4 axle dump and weigh 28100.

Regardless of the quarry or the trucking company policy, most state laws require the scalemaster to do a new tare weight anytime the purchaser of the material requests. I know that is the law here in Pennsylvania.

As already stated it depends on the shipper (quarry, mine, ect. ). I haul out of several different ones, sometimes daily. Some are monthly, down to daily. With that said, I'll throw in another thing to consider. How is the driver paid? By the mile, hourly or percentage? The first 2 would have no effect, the last one, percentage can. If the driver is being paid a percentage of what the truck is paid, which is based on weight of product, then the driver does have the opportunity and temptation to fudge the tare weight at quarries where it's handwritten.
I load out of one such quarry, and I've seen other driver's tickets showing a ridiculous tare weight. There's no requirement to actually do a tare weight at anytime. We will when we get a new tractor and/or trailer.
What is common practice for us, is to load before fueling, that way we can haul more product. Our scale ticket shows us to be legal, however if we get stopped and portables used, it's well oops I guess I'm a little heavy.
