That's about what I figured. I'll just take it easy and sock away some cash for a few more weeks.
Let me ask you guys this. On a truck with 1.3 million miles if you were putting in a new clutch what else would you do while the transmission is out?
I seem to have some oil leaking from somewhere off the top of the trans running down around the sides at the front near the bell housing. It's not bad but I hate leaks.
The flywheel has been resurfaced before i know that. Replace it with a brand new fly wheel? My linkages for the clutch all look kind of sloppy and worn should that be replaced.
What about transmission seals? I've read on here about replacing the input shaft? I just want to get this done right and not have to worry about it ever again. It'll be the last clutch I ever put in this truck.
pulled inspection plate off to grease throw out - this fell out

Also, what kind of hours involved in the labor on this job? What is going to be typical hours at an ordinary shop?
-
In a kw i would say about 10 hours. For me to due it. I would do anything i could afford so it doesent have to come out for a long time. Rearmain seal for sure. Get a eaton kit that has input shaft, bearing front gasket kit, cross shafts and bushing and clutch brake. Cheaper than buying parts seperate. Think about motor mounts, ujoints, linkage. Maybe take to trans shop and have them put bearing kit in and look for worn gears and sliding clutches. Cheaper to do before its broken.

And yes some shops will do it faster. But all you get is a clutch. Later if you have to pull it for 4 .79 crossshaft bushings it will feel very silly

input shaft kit.

You shure got purty hands fer a truck driver lol
6daysontheroad and scottied67 Thank this. -
resurface flywheel
new input shaft
new cross shaft and bushings
new rear main seal
clutch linkage
rear engine mounts
Transmission cooler if coolant runs through it (top of tranny)
This is all usually done with a clutch job or at least given a hard look at. -
when i had the clutch done in my fld i pretty much had all of allan5oh's list done except for engine mounts but also did a few new u joints and a new carrier baring. as they appeared to be getting worn and the driveshaft was on the ground. also a new input shaft. seems like there was some other things we did too but dont really remember. i want to say the bill was like $5500 or in that ballpark

I have a digital inspection camera for things like this. About $75 at Harbor Freight. You get a much better look at what's going on in there.
Do you have the two piece clutch brake? It's a pretty easy swap if you do.
