And that right there is why this industry is going downhill. "Not my job"

OP, dont sweat it. If you seen a closed sign then your good! Take the good info from this thread and forget the crap, cause there are a lot of drivers in here still learning.
Exactly! A lot of young drivers just look at the money, and not the equipment. .05 less per mile wont hurt a bit if your running good equipment for a man who can keep you loaded!

Because they run junk equipment down the highways, and likely just hire another driver rather than make repairs. The question is: How long has the senior drivers been with the company, Im betting either less than a year, or running some newer equipment!

ID/WA coop eastbound I-90 has got to be the worst one in Washington state. Bunch of greenhorn monkeys, faces at the windows, picking your truck apart as you roll through.
They inspected me several years ago and were going to write me up because "there was a rubber hose coming out of each fuel tank and going nowhere" Finally theyre boss came out and agreed with me, them hoses are vent tubes, lol.
They all looked like grease monkeys when they got through crawling around under that old Pete, and the truck passed!

With their arrogance, just be glad they aren't mechanics, or any other profession that requires intelligence!
I think anyone not valuing a CB radio should have the experience of meeting a fully loaded Mule Train on a switch back head on! The survivors would turn out to be pretty decent drivers!

Safe to check the brakes but please do not adjust them. Sure back in the day it was ok however if an accident occurs and they find out you had made the adjustment and have no certifications that would make you liable in the courtroom after the company fires you.

Our instructor advised us not to and let the mechanics handle such matters. Your already liable for enough as it is. Save yourself a few dollars instead of being on the hook for 100k +. Only thing it does is burn your clock. It's better than burning your license and bridges.

Wouldn't you have to actually tell someone you adjusted the brakes for all this to apply? You can quite easily avoid this liability scenario by just not saying anything.

That is why old truckers like me look at that treasured rusted 9/16 wrench evoking memories of the old mechanical brake adjustments... then the child driving luxury computer assisted trucks holding the wheel whining about not doing anything to it? Or even caring? That upsets me. If someone is a trucker, I expect that person to know #### well what is under that truck, in the truck on the truck around the #### truck and how to deal with it properly 1000 miles from home if necessary.

If I was a Company and someone howled not my job to adjust brakes. That person is gone Until I can find another who is willing to take a teaching in adjustments and so forth.

True. Just throwing it out there since I've read plenty on this forum of people admitting guilt In a fair amount of things. Some people are chummy with other company members and it can eventually bite them in the rear.

Do you work for free? Why would anyone donate free mechanical work to the trucking company?

The wheels can still turn on a heavy trailer with the brakes set. Doesn't necessarily mean the trailers brakes are bad, but does mean that the springs are probably weak.

And none of you have ever blown a scale? Really?

I know I have, never with a prepass in the truck though.
