Fairings are just basically just skirts that run up the sides of the sleeper to help reduce wind drag.

Everyone keeps saying relax relax.. if he fails this.. we gotta dish out over $300 to go with a private tester and with school startiing working around their schedule.. which sets everything back.. as the buses are all in use.. he thought he'd have more time.. but it's being crammed very quickly to digest is all. He studied for a solid 8 hrs today.. I think he's doing his homework... but yeah. I worry.. I'll be on my knees praying when that test is going on.. for sure

I don't know what a sleeper is.. this seems to be related to a class A situation then..

That could have been the world's sexiest Kenworth in the video and I would not have even noticed it.

This seems to waaaay over the top pre-trip stuff. Does the state require him to be a wrench and body appraiser, parts man and driver. Jeez, the basic bone head checks in detail should suffice, unless this is a RR company requirement. BNSF? Surely not Herzog.

A sleeper is an extension of the cab that has storage and a bed for being out on the road. Class B trucks can have them as well.

There's plenty of videos to watch online for pretrips on school bus. If he's in the railroad and not going to drive a school bus I'm not sure i'd go that route for training.

When I got mine I went to Penske and asked for a Straight truck that was a GVWR 26,001 Think I paid like 250 for the truck and at that time the DMV didn't charge to take the test. My girlfriend had a class A license so she drove it down there for me. I studied my rear off for a solid week.

Great to see you're trying to help him whether he needs it or not. I'll put in a prayer for your family tonight and hope all works out for guys.
I know hindsight is 20/20 but he should've gone to a school like Sage. They have 5 locations in PA and I believe it's under $3k. The course is 40hr and if their program in PA is anything like the one I'm attending in FL they are super flexible with peoples schedules.

Thank you for the prayers... the closest program that could work with his schedule was an hour away... they only did class B ONE WEEK A month.. he would have had to take a week off to take the class.. this was an option.. each class was 10 hrs a day... then adding 2 hours for driving.... (talk about cramming.. then you get the test that weekend)

And we never expected the railroad to start laying off carmen across the country.. .now it seems they want to hire out...so they don't have to pay their benefits.. meanwhile their CEO's are giving themselves 3 million in bonuses.. (True story)...

We were foolish enough to think this was a pretty safe Job once you get in & move up the roster unless they close your shop (then you can bump somewhere else).....there was no need for a CDL.. their was a need for welding certificates -which his workplace offered to send him to schooling to get...and pay for...... he's been there 17 yrs so far... he could bump someone at another location IF he got laid off... we have no desire to live apart.. and we don't want to move..

    Concorde Thanks this.
