i got a 2008 Detroit 14L s60 i am burning about 1 gallon of oil every 1000 miles truck has about 680,000 miles on it i have took it to a couple of dealerships to get it checked out and they are unable to figure it out got the turbo checked came out fine ran a dyno on it blow-by was fine less than 1 " no oil in water or fuel or air tanks had compressor checked everything is coming back ok it runs strong with no problems noticed problem started from one week to another after i changed out the the crankcase breather filter on the blow by tube its not smoking or has any obvious oil leaks so just wanted to see if anyone has dealt with something like this and any advice is helpful thanks

Have you been running it prior to this happening, or is the truck new to you?

i was running it for about 7 months before it would burn maybe 1 gallon between oil changes which is every 12-15,000 miles

Sounds like you either are burning it in a cylinder from a bad valve guide letting oil in the cylinder during combustion or its passing a ring just a little bit.

Would you consider doing only the head on a 700,000 mile 14L that runs 15,000 miles per year?

Absolutely. We are doing a head on one of mine because it cracked at 818k and it runs 60k a year. But we do our own work so it's a little different and cheaper for me to say that. But yes I think so. I usually see a head swap on a motor halfway between a total rebuild.

    12valve and BoxCarKidd Thank this.
