Oh there is a shyster in our area who will teach you on a school bus and wants $2,000 for walking in the door.. and another $1,000 in his hand BEFORE you take the test.. and he couldn't give me a CAP on how much this could rack up to us.. he has a SHADY reputation.. oh this one would have easily worked around my husband's work hours.. but we could have paid up to $4,000 for him and got nothing in return..

We were very uncomfortable with that situation -feeling it was our only option ..thankfully it wasn't.

I don't know. When I took my school bus test, I followed the school bus Pretrip because it had only a couple added things, but then the school bus endorsement material was all in a single cdl manual.

Like I said this isn't rocket science, it is easy and doesn't require a lot of work. The one thing that messes with people is the stress of the test, which isn't much because 99.99999 of this is common sense stuff.

Hasn't this been going on for a few months now?

I thought he would have already gotten his cdl and been on his way.

1: Schools might charge less vs. Class A. Someone has a Class B job lined up, and just needs to get the CDL, they're not in a position where they realize this. Hindsight is always 20/20 - foresight is not.
2: A lot of people with B licenses get it through on-the-job training, and they'll provide just the minimum required for the job. This reduces costs they see as excessive, and also makes it more difficult for them to do the "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" and run off to a different job. I work for Public Works here in the City and County of Denver, and they run a CDL course in-house out at the airport (Denver International Airport, although being 25 miles from downtown, is incorporated as part of C&C of Denver)... you'll live this - five day course, all trucks with Allisons. Just enough to get a Class A, nothing more. Well, I can tell you first that no FNG going through that course is going to get put into a T/T with Public Works, but they're also not going to get hired to drive one for anyone else, either.
3: Some workplaces have Class A and Class B trucks, and the B positions may be more desirable. When I drove for Pioneer Sand, I was on the tandem side. When our RGN driver was fired, I filled in for him. I ultimately turned that job down, as they only wanted to offer me $1.50/hour more to run an RGN up to 10 axles than what I made running a tandem dump or flat & fork, plus the Class A positions didn't pay overtime, whereas the tandem side did, and I got a lot more overtime on the tandem side. Plus the transfer side was supervised by a woman named Ilene, and she was a real power tripping piece of ####, who looked for any excuse to try flexing her authority and making you feel like you were under her heel. If I had been intent on making a career with that company (which wasn't going to happen), I'd probably have considered downgrading to a B to ensure I never ended up on the transfer side.

60 is hold off pressure, 115 - 130 is cut out pressure, with a cut in pressure of no less than 25 psi below cut out.

Oh, and to the OP - as many others have said before, chill. At my shop, everyone is required to have a Class A within one year of hire, and those who don't have one coming in go through the crash course CDL program out at the airport. I tell the ones who get the jitters about it the same thing I'm gonna tell you - if you need reassurance, go to the nearest truck stop... actual travel center, not these little bum ### gas stations with some truck parking. Go to their restaurant, take a look at those around you. When you look at some of those around you, you will ask yourself, "wait... they got a CDL.. AND a job driving a tractor-trailer 100,000+ miles a year?!". Getting a CDL... ain't nothing to it. Our mechanics, EOs, etc. who didn't have one previously get a Class A in a five day crash course. The real test isn't so much for getting the license - it's on the road. These guys who get the crash course CDL at the airport might have the license, but I guarantee you I could stick them in a truck at the top of Vale Pass and they wouldn't know what the #### to do.

Congratulations. Life is usually a lot easier if we don't worry about it so much. Fear of failure is worst the plain old failure. We fail, we get up. we try again. But with the Fear of failure, we lose sleep.

He had a # of moments that would make anyone NERVOUS today... I will share with you all how "Particular in detail" they expect on this Pre-test...(If you look on the DMV site.. it will tell you changes have been made...He basically told ME.. those You tube vidoes...watching them over & over & over SAVED HIM... This test was taken at a Dept of Transportation... not a Private Tester...

I will lay out the Mishaps... and what went down...

    1. Conflict of "teaching" on this one.. the Bus Company that trained him had a Creeper & a hammer in the bus for him to use on the test, this am.... he knew from watching videos that you aren't supposed to even KICK the tires... but yet the Bus company has been training , even recently to use a hammer on the tires.. he wasn't going to use the hammer - but he decided to ask his Inspector about the Creeper... the man did not look happy & says "It's Not looking good for you"... Great way to start out right !@#

    2. This test started at 8:45 am - and lasted till 11:30 .... I asked this question many times..answers varied here.. but YES. he spent a good hour (or near) for the PRE-TEST ALONE... (talking pretty much non stop pointing every detail he could out )

    3. a Couple things he missed..

He spoke just about everything being mounted to the frame/ secured .. but forgot to say the Frame itself was free from Cracks & illegal welds...he spoke how the front leaf springs weren't broken, bent, securely fastened to the frame...but failed to say the same about the Back ones... so he missed that...

Not enough detail about a Back wheel (he asked the instructor where he missed to hear him lay these out)...

    4. Bad moment.. when showing how to open the Emergency exit on roof, when shutting it.. the buzzer got stuck... he couldn't get it off..the Inspector did NOT Look happy.. but he got it...

He did shake every seat Saying "not loose ,broken & securely attached to the floor, no damage from kids"

He did good with the Brake Test and driving...

Then after all this.. they made a mistake -handed him another Class C license, [IMG] had to Void that .. then finally.. the Class B was in his hands...

No.. he wasn't exaggerating.. And yeah.. we've celebrated ...I would put a naughty emoticon here.. but not sure that is allowed. You guys are funny!

He was their Guinea Pig with these new Requirements....it's only with the Pre-Trip stuff.... (husband asked). . one thing is for sure.. these papers they hand out & say what to do, mention.. it's NOT ENOUGH NOW.....at least not at this DMV !

These 2 videos is what he would recommend for anyone to pass with these new requirements...using this much detail...
