His system is filled with garbage. He said he didn't use the rear unit and didn't want to spend the money replacing components on stuff he didn't use.
The logical choice would be to block the lines to the rear a/c.
And he has gauges... all the gauges in the world won't clean the crap out of a blown system.

He wasn't using guages. He was using cans. He needs to flush the system. Duh. But blocking off the rear a/c unit is not a great idea. Is this his problem or yours?!
-
For the benefit of everyone else who may read this, newer style parallel flow and or extruded tube condensers and evaporators cannot be flushed. They absolutely must be replaced.BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -

Sir that's not a guage. That's a can with a valve on it.

This isn't a pissing match. I replied to the original post. Not yours. I was addressing his issues, not yours. But with all due respect, how many A/C's have you done this week?!
-
Since you've asked, I've done A/C work since I worked in the shops as a mechanic starting in 1984. It's one of my specialties along with all things electrical, though I am still very proficient in engines and drivetrains in cars and heavy duty trucks as well.
I quit turning wrenches and started driving the trucks instead in 1991. I own my own truck now and do 95% of my own work on it.
To answer your question, I just went through and replaced all the lines, expansion valve and drier on my APU system just this last week. No easy task when it comes to installing 39 feet of line.
When I get back home next time, I have a 2001 Chevy Prizm that's getting a complete system, one end to the other.
So why don't I do it for a living? If you are the A/C guru you say you are, you know the Prizm is the same as a Corolla and requires the entire dash to be removed just to replace the evaporator. That's not something I enjoy doing day-in and day-out. I like driving and traveling... and offering assistance on the forums for others to repair their own A/C because that #### is expensive to have done in a shop.
TL;DR
I am a ####ing A/C Wizard!Last edited: Aug 14, 2016
