12 volt electric cooler or A/C dorm fridge?

I used a 40 qt electric cooler for 3 years OTR and id worked well for me. I only had it blow fuses and melt the power cord 1-2 times. I watched that thing like a hawk, eventually I had to replace the fan motor. I don't remember the brand. It had grey chest & white lid.

If you had a truck with a large inverter would you use an A/C powered dorm fridge or the 12 volt cooler? I don't know how reliable the inverter will be over time. The company uses TriPac APU, I'm hoping that's a sign of quality equipment. The 12 volt cooler has parts available at many truck stops, with power cords and fuses the most likely failures. If the inverter or dorm fridge goes bad I don't know what kind of maintenance I can do on it except check circuit breaker/fuses. I attempt to eat practically every meal from my own groceries, not just have some drinks with me.

I'm not sure I'm willing to spend $600 for a Dometic 12 volt compressor fridge.

Oh, and it runs just fine on the 1800 watt TK inverter.

I ran the 12VDC cooler for a year or so . They put me in a truck with a 1800 watt inverter and I switched over to a 2.7cf refrigerator from Home depot. It's much nicer then a 12vdc cooler. Also I strapped my microwave to the top of the refrigerator to take up less space in the sleeper.

Fridges work way better then coolers. Specially in the summer and they have freezers. The cooler only cools down 40 degrees from outside temp so if it's hot in the truck. It's not cool inside the cooler.

To clarify, I'm asking is the inverter & dorm fridge more reliable (keeps working) than the best 12 volt cooler?

Obviously the a/c dorm fridge keeps food colder than a 12v cooler.

    Thanks for replies so far.

I'm going to remember this thread, every time I hear about a non smoking driver's truck catching fire in a parking lot.

On the other hand, if you're committed to keeping a mini reefer in your cab, weigh the cost of eating out over the cost of eating like a human being. Even at $600, that pays for itself in less than a year.

I never had a cooler last more than six months. My last dorm fridge went two years.

Never had the best 12vdc cooler, but I will stay with my mini fridge and 1800 watt inverter. But I also run a microwave, TV , and satellite dish. So it makes more sense for me.

As long as the inverter is large enough, 1,800 watt or larger as a fridge motor needs a lot of juice when it kicks in. Be sure to use large enough wires to supply the inverter.
The only issue I had: the fridge happened to kick in at the exact same moment that I started the truck, causing a low voltage condition for the inverter and a brown-out for the fridge. Fried the fridge motor. Picked up a new fridge at Walmart for $119. After that I placed an extra battery right by the inverter with a cutoff switch.
