Looking at a truck with the Cummins ISX450 and I know nothing about them. What are some common things that happen with these? Any red flags to look for?
Seemed to run pretty good with the exception of a small lope at idle when first started. When it was most noticeable it sounded like the ignition being turned off for a split second then back on. Also thought it did it real quick under power before it got to operating temp, split second power loss then fine. No smoke from the pipe at all and a VERY loud turbo.

CM870. Good motor but very finicky about emissions sensors.

I have the same engine in a 2007 W900. Over a million miles on it now, just rebuilt. As above poster said, you need to keep the emissions sensors maintained, but it's not quite the monster about them as the CM871.

Honestly we don't see to many problems with them, no more than most stuff. Egr related problems mostly. Fuel pumps as well the gear driven one but that's usually higher mileage. Did one oil cooler on one so far. I say pretty good engine from most my experience working on them.
