This thread make me very sad. I had a 2003 KW T600 with Cat c15. Bought brand new in 02'.
Lasted til 1.3 million on the engine until I did rebuild. Ended up selling it. The next month is when I started regretting it. Still do to this day and it's been about a year and a half.
    Best truck I've ever owned.
    My 2013&2015 kenworths don't compare.
If I am to buy another truck it would be a 2003 kw and I would just do a rebuild at the same location too.

I'm torn in this topic. I have a 09 and 10 Cascadia and also have a 2000 century and 96 Volvo all with Detroits. There all about the same in reliability as far as down time. The Cascadias ride some much better and are so much quieter and honestly a more comfortable truck to drive than the other 2.

All there fuel mileage are pretty close with the Cascadias prob getting the slight advantage. Repairs on the newer ones are a little more obviously so it's hard to say. I'd rather drive my newer trucks any day of the week but I think in the future all will be gliders so I can have my cake and eat it to!

My own opinion, and it's just that, on the 99 thing is this......does anyone really think if the elog mandate goes full on in 2017 that the government will just let those with a 99 or older truck just run forever without an eld? Seriously, they are usually a few steps ahead in their thinking and I'm sure already have "plans" for future legislation that will affect these trucks. They do what they do for a reason, which sometimes isn't apparent until later. I personally wouldn't go after a 99 specifically because at some point, prolly sooner than later, be nothing but a boat anchor. If I already had one, by all means I'd be keeping it until the last minute. I can just see many blowing good money on a loophole that'll surely close.

Those are mechanical motors, there would be so few comparatively speaking, and I'm sure they will be a high target at the inspection stations..

You sir are probably correct. I've been saying the same thing. Eventually they will close that loop there not stupid. They just haven't figured a way yet! Somebody will lobby a divice or something that will make them a bunch of money like elogs and sleep apnea test and sleep apnea machines.

I think Elog at Dot inspections will be a push to get a closer look at the Driver/Truck interior.
