They're also getting paid $1 while KLLM pockets $2, meanwhile the driver is paying for the fuel, truck, tires, etc. I'd rather do 62 and get paid half of what that driver is making and not have to worry about those notes.

Oh, me too. I always found it odd that NONE of their drivers would drive slower and strive for higher mpg's.

As did I. KLLM puts it in their heads that if they get there quicker, the company will turn them around with another load quicker - just means more free money in KLLM's pocket until they starve them out of the lease in the last 3 to 6 months.

When I was working for Crete for most of last year, they were giving me an option of either Crete (dry van side) or Shaffer (reefer side). Shaffer makes a few CPM more then Crete, but the miles rarely exceed 500 due to being cold foods and whatnot. So Crete has more miles to give, but like I said, get paid a few CPM less. Towards the end I was making .51 CPM, but was running anywhere between 500-1,000 miles per load. Shaffer I heard paid .53-.57 CPM but with 300-500 mile loads.

Did they still tell drivers where to fuel and how many gallons to get? I hated that part. Otherwise if I wanted to go back Otr they’d be on the top of my list.

Crete does still ask company drivers to stick to their fuel routing, yes, but if you don't like your fuel routing, you can normally get it changed.

Ignoring fuel routing every now and then is fine, but if you have a legitimate reason to fuel somewhere different, call dispatch and ask them to set your first fuel stop where you want it. Normally they can change routing if you tell them BEFORE you get to the first fuel stop. If you hit that first fuel stop, changing later fuel stops requires permissions that most of the dispatch team don't have.

That's how it was explained to me anyway, and while I was a Crete company driver I changed my fuel routing dozens of times every year.
