KKW Trucking and DSW Trucking will probably hire from that short school. You can work for one of these until you qualify for an LTL company which shouldn't take long.

Thank you all. I agree that school is short, just like the direct approach.

Most of the guys I work with doing LTL never went to school. They worked the dock and got trained to drive during the slow times...Or they knew somebody higher up on the chain and got a job being trained to drive P&D right off the bat. I did OTR for 3 years because they told me at school I wouldn't get a local job without a few years of experience. I think it definitely depends on the company, and also the company location. When I was applying for local LTL jobs most of the bigger LTL companies said something like, "1 year verified experience, OR graduate from approved trucking school." I would check to see if your school is on the list. I know some aren't certified in ways that other larger trucking schools are.

So far not one carrier has gotten back with the list I requested. So I'm going to a school I chose.

Reddaway will probably need to hire straight from schools at some point. They can't find anyone decent to drive, everyone fails their pre trips or has some other issues. We had 1 guy that had to ask his Dr about getting off some hard core mess. Another guy had major medical problems the others couldn't point out anything in the engine compartment for the pre trip. They hired 1 guy out of 8 the 7 didn't even get to road test.

After you submitted the applications online, did you go ahead and call the terminal managers?? Sometimes the applications don't get pulled for a week or so.

I agree with ya... But it hasn't always been like this. Only recently (at least in my service area) have we experienced a driver shortage. It's not only about finding qualified drivers, but also the things Reddaway does in terms of treatment... Which ultimately goes back to how well Reddaway can retain their drivers. My terminal has had two open positions for the past three years. Everytime one position gets filled, someone else quits.

Yeah I agree that's why I'm looking at leaving. I do enjoy the free Healthcare but I realised that just 1 day of me sitting at home is almost how much the Healthcare costs at most other companies for my whole family for the month.

I haven't called TM's. Good idea. Probably even better if I wait until I have a CDL in hand.
