So some say "Yes but I know 'how to run a business' and had to leave because of ZYZ"....Well, sometimes the timing of bad conditions and bad luck cause that. So not eveyone who has to leave LS has failed. Landstar is very picky on who they bring on but they are still guilty of bringing on people that do not have the aptitude for this business. I think it's just the nature of a large carrier. Look at the revolving door at the mega fleets. LS has a different version of it...just more experienced guys who have more personally at stake. The guy who is an excellent comapny driver may not be worth a crap at running a business. Guess you never know if you don't try though.
And keep in mind everyone has different circumstances...If I was paying for the house in the suburbs and had a mountain of bills and was drowning in debt like lots of people do I woudn't be able to make it at LS. I take off at least 10-12 days evey month, usually more than that. That is more important to me than keeping up with the Jones'. Unlike other carriers who fleece people into a LP program with identical trucks eveyone here has a different truck with differerent specs so comparing truck expenses is irrelevant. A guy who grosses $225K may stand to make a lot less at the end of the year than the guy who only grosses $100K if he isn't managing his business properly. It has more to do with the ability to control costs than it does with finding high paying loads.
Bottom line is it is a whole lot bigger picture than I think most people give it credit for being.
Does it work for me? Absolutely. But I went into it with eyes wide open, I was almost looking for reasons to talk myself out of doing it rather than trying to justify it.TomOfTx and HopeOverMope Thank this. -

What's up guys
live in Arkansas, thinking about landstar teaming. any get drop and hooks out of TX or across the 40 and 10 to so called? thx -
Having read most of this thread, I have a question. I have my tractor and dry van, am averaging between 1.40 and 1.80 per mile and pay my carrier 17%. Settlements are between 2,400.00 and 2,800.00 weekly. That is after fuel and insurance. Truck and trailer payments are 2,300.00/month. The only thing I see that would make me think of moving to Landstar would be fuel discounts. I pay pump price less .05 at Love's and TA. Is the fuel discounts that much greater to justify switching over? Also, other discounts, tires, maintenance? Thanks guys.
