Hey thanks for the info. I'm sure I can find some pics of his old trucks somewhere. But my dad drove for a guy that had about 15 trucks at the time all international cab over single axle trucks. And all the drivers kept the chrome polished, and had about a many chicken lights as you could get on the truck. All of em company trucks. Guy just told them don't leave holes in the truck. So when they got a new one, they just had to buy more chicken lights. And they did. That's been prob 25-30 years ago now. I rode a many of mile with him. And I'm fairly new to driving myself but I remember the way he done things so I get just a frustrated with some of the stuff i see out on the road now days. I guess I'm still thinking about the way it use to be. And I try to be that "old school" driver. Dad still drives for a bigger company now and sure can't run like he use to. I even remember a log book stashed under the bunk in that old cab over and one on the dash. Get to delivery and swap em out and head back to the house. Crazy stuff back then. Lol

Years ago, I had heard of drivers crimping the return fuel line with a vice grips. Matter of fact, one mechanic told me. as per the boss, on a scheduled maintenance, they were suppose to check for that. You could make them old Cummins run, but they'd get hot.I had another friend that worked at an injection pump place, and he would "turn up" the pumps for the customer, but the customer had to sign a waiver, saying the pump outfit wasn't responsible for melt downs.

I was talking to dad about a week ago and was fussing about some guys sitting in the fuel island. We got to talk about old times. We got on the issue of governed speeds. He was telling me back when he was driving those cab overs him and another driver (only guy that had been with the company longer than him at the time) were coming back home across MT one afternoon. The other guy had just got a new truck and wanted to see what it would do. So dad and him were running pretty good. Dad was ahead of him and met a DOT officer. He flipped around and pulled over the guy behind dad. Said the guy ask him why he got him and only him and the DOT guy told him he knew there was no way he could have caught dad. Said he told the guy he clocked him at 98, and dad was over 100. Guy told dad later he needed whatever it was he had done to his put on his truck lol. My uncle was the only mechanic at the company and he also drove some too. So he didn't say a word about the trucks being messed with. That stuff sure don't happen today. Dad always tells me that was back when trucking use to be fun.

It's still fun for some of us, I will admit for me it's a different fun than it used to be. I do hate that the federallies started taking innocent fun so serious
