CB radio ban

I'm not real familiar with provincial politics in Canada. My wife is from Valleyview, Alberta though and I've been there many times. Alberta always struck me as a lot more laid back than Ontario.

I lived in both Grand Bend and Sarnia, Ontario for over a year while my wife was waiting on immigration to the US. ####s sake, check points everywhere, getting pulled over for no reason all the time... etc. Never went through any of that nonsense in Alberta.

 

"Breaker Breaker" .......... I mean "Broker Broker". ...............

Seriously boys and girls ........ here's the opportunity for you tech savy young'ns .... invent the 'hands free CB' .... seriously ...... but don't invest to much time or money ...... people don't use the CB like they used too ... I can go 12 hours and not hear a single peep these days ......... JMHO

 

I do NOT want a hands-free CB picking up on my random conversations between me, myself, and I. That Me guy gets pretty frickin weird.

The article is six years old and here is Alberta Transportation's stance... CBs are not banned for work purposes, i.e. CMV drivers.

Alberta Clarifies CB Rules for Trucking

The new legislation states that commercial drivers and those involved in search and rescue work may continue to use 2-way radio communication devices (e.g., Citizen’s Band or “CB” radios) for work-related but not recreational purposes. Example of work-related use would be communications between drivers of overdimensional and escort vehicles or between drivers and their employers.

This law is not about taking away tools for traffic safety. The use of hand-held CB radios to communicate extreme weather conditions or a hazard on the roadway, such as a collision, could fall under the ‘emergency’ scenario category.

Alberta Transportation recognizes that commercial drivers are professionals and anticipates that they will make good safety decisions when choosing to use public radio systems. As with all laws, enforcement officers ultimately have the responsibility to evaluate specific situations to determine if citizens are complying with the law.​

So, should I ever be driving in Alberta, I should make other drivers aware of the fact that I do not currently adorn myself with any sort of skivvies, as a lack of driver comfort "could" be construed as a type of emergency? Commando is comfy!!!!

 

This is one thing I will have no trouble being an outlaw over. It's not like I'm driving around with the thing in my hand. I'll fight tooth and nail if I ever get a ticket (assuming it ever comes to Manitoba).

 

Alberta has the best stuff and Ontario is a close 2nd...
