I discovered early on that the straight truck guys at our place did more "real work" than the rest of us. I didn't look forward to filling in when one of those guys was off.

One of the best things about the pace of P&D work is that the day flies by and you really feel like you accomplished something at the end of it. It's awesome when you actually enjoy your job. Congrats on the new gig with Saia!

That is true and that is really what I had expected in this job. I am really enjoying it, actually that is an understatement. It is awesome to be challenged with some deliveries. Had a 4x10 pallet today with a brand new designed front door for a residence, yup.... that was awesome getting in and out of there with a 48 ft lift gate... lol.
Got it done and even helped the customer get it into the garage. Since his mother was there to receive it and it was supposed to rain in the next couple days, so they didnt want to leave it out. So I sawed off a couple of the posts of the framing 2x4 for the bracing to help get it in with their saw and vualah! it fit! took all of 5 minutes to get it in there.

Any ways, had a good day today. Ran another route. They want me to run the different routes just to get a taste of each and learn different customers just in case I have to cover. I didn't realize how much ground our little Lexington, KY terminal covers! We cover about 20 miles south of Cincinnati all the way down to the Tennessee line. As far east as WV state line and as far west as 10 miles from Louisville. Fairly large area for a 20 door terminal that only has maybe 12 trucks!

Things have ever been going good. Still loving my decision. Finally got my uniforms in the mail today, so I don't look like the odd ball anymore.

I have to say I can get used to the college campus deliveries..... holy crap!!!! Got to deliver to UK and KSU within the last few work days.

Just been covering where I'm needed. Nice having a challenge of routes planning 13-20 P&D stops. We really aren't micromanaged as long as your competent at what you do consistently.

Employee appreciation tomorrow so I get to see how much "love" they show their drivers, lol.

Good chance to look at some cute co-eds! Of course, you have to remember that to them, you likely are not even a "real person," unless you're close to their age and a "hunk."
Most of us, looking at co-eds, and if they notice us at all, they just think, "dirty old man." (Not that they are wrong or anything.)

Most of the time they're not even looking where they're walking.

    Our "Employee appreciation" is thursday.

I'm sure those of is who actually work won't get any food by the time the out of town linehaul drivers get done.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

I thought the same thing today, but what our TM did was schedule it so all drivers were back by 1830 and right before the line haul guys came in. Than he had all the food ready for us and layed out so all of us could eat and have food. Got to give it to the guy, he was in there from 5am and was still on the grill at 1930 when I left. lol

That's a hell of a lot of grilling.

Since I'm 120 miles from the yard I won't have that luxury though.
