I talked to a reefer driver at Bush Beans near Knoxville and he said he makes a little over $28K and is content with that. That doesn't mean he's wrong, it means he has job satisfaction.
True cost of company schools.

It's VERY valuable to know the range of costs and quality. But it's a funny kind of socialism to think companies should pay the same or schools should cost the same. McDs & fancy restaurants

@tscottme, AMEN! But some folks just can't comprehend that you can't start at the top.

Lol and point at thread whooshes past.
I took at as cost of school + cost of being severely underpaid for a year = much higher than cost of school and do some research so not severely underpaid for a year.
Not saying everyone should start out at the top. That is silly. But if you think it's fair for new drivers to make way less, consider that then it's also fair for companies to run experienced drivers out and keep replacing them with fresh recruits to keep costs low.TequilaSunrise Thanks this. -
An intelligent individual will do some checking before signing anything. Now I realize there are some very intelligent folks who find themselves in trouble financially. They may be much more tempted to jump at what appears to be a lifeline. There also are undoubtedly some intelligent folks who, for one reason or another, decide a company school and the contract that goes with it, is their best choice.
Do I personally think the megas, with their schools are the way to go? All I can say to that is, "it depends."
Not to get into politics here, but I believe that free choice is far better than big brother stepping in and "regulating" things. We're all aware of how well that works.TankerP Thanks this. -
As such, most of the consumer information about schools comes from only schools. Despite being funded largely by the government, their is almost no government regulation of schools. It is free money without obligation. Like in all cases like that, you should expect some misbehavior and dishonesty, and thats exactly what you get with trucking schools.
The industry it's self if far from honest about anything. For example, you commonly get new feeds from the trucking lobbing claiming a shortage of drivers. Now anybody who knows a thing about the industry knows what BS that is. But it passes muster with the news media because they have no other authority to go by. The result is a lot of people shell out the money or commitments for a trade under false pretenses.
Another common myth perpetrated by the industry is the wage and working conditions. A common belief among new truck drivers is they are going to work a 9-5 and rake in 100k in short order. While their is some that claim that here, but we all know that is just BS fed to prospects from those that make money selling trucking school.
I could go on and on but it should be obvious that trucking eduction market is like no other in the free market.Friday, speedyk and fuzzeymateo Thank this. -

They are basically a predatory lender. Taking advantage of those who don't know any better and are just happy to have a job.Friday Thanks this. -
Cost me zero dollars. Time spent on a childish programming class, skipped the resume class, and took the ACT which actually doesn't even matter what you score on anyway.
