I know this is reviving a very old thread, but I have a question about dumping the front or rear axle and after an exhaustive search from the site, didn't find the answer.

I do not care about turning radius,
my goal is to relieve as much stress from the tires and trailer frame as possible from an aluminum flatbed trailer when turning

It seems that if I dump the rear axle, that the teeter totter effect, it will take weight off the drives, adding to overall weight of trailer which is now supported 100% by the front axle. If already loaded heavy, dumping the rear with the added weight from teeter effect plus weight on trailer that it would be more likely to bottom out the front air springs. Seems like it it be more stress on middle of trailer?

I'm leaning towards dumping the front axle of the trailer as it seems like it would move weight from the trailer distributing it to drive axles and rear trailer axle.

So thinking intuitively, dumping the front axle when turning would be the easiest on the trailer with less total weight to carry on trailer tires through the turn?

So which would you guys think would be easier on the trailer and tires? Dumping the front axle or rear axle and why?

The weight is usually in the middle of the trailer so the teeter totter effect would be nil. Put the dump on the rear axle would be my advice.

Install the dump valve on the rear axle of the trailer. Was also used for unloading train wheels mounted on the axles, dump the trailer axle made it easier to roll them to the back of the trailer when unloading. Our tractors at H and W trucking had dump valves on the drives of the tractor, we would dump the tractor and it made it easier to load the train wheels. Dump that rear axle on the trailer as you approach your turn you will be OK, don't wait until you start making the turn before you dump the axle.

Thanks guys. I installed the dump on my rear axle and added a suspension air pressure gauge while I was in there. Tuesday when heading out I will experiment with time to dump to know how soon before turn to hit switch.

And again,as posted, put a big red warning light on the switch. You will forget it's dumped sooner later, and you will quickly flat spot and ruin a set of 4 tires, when you hit the brakes, btdt.
