Hey everyone, just posting to see if anyone has an opinion or past experience with a situation similar to mine. I'm a relatively experienced driver with five years under my belt with all endorsements and a clean record before this accident.

I recently had a hydroplaning/tire blowout accident where I was the only vehicle involved during heavy rain. Had a tire blowout which caused me to lose control and end up in the ditch. I was shortly fired by my employer which I think may have been a knee jerk reaction by safety.

    - No injuries/fatalities
    - Cited with improper lane usage, but planning to fight it
    - Vehicle was towed away
    - Fired shortly thereafter

I'm not sure if I'm letting the negative thoughts get the best of me, or is my trucking career is over?

Thanks for any and all information:)

    Hydroplaning or a blowout?

    Which one is it?

Which tire blew out? Was it a steer?

Your trucking career isn't over. Even drivers with rollovers have a new job within a couple of weeks.

Hydroplane shows negilence in too fast for conditions. That is a firing if it leads to accident. You already know that many parts of our USA roads flood badly leading to dangerous hydroplaning at 55 and requires slowing to like 35 or getting over to the left more. I 10 in florida comes to mind.

If the steer blew up during hydroplane... it's strange possibly a preexisting low air situation that bit you hard. Possibly. Im just thinking out loud here as a devil's advocate.

The ditch I don't care about, the TOW I do. That makes it a accident. Preventable.

I know there is a thousand ways to game this situation but at the end of day, you will be home for a while. Eventually you will be hired again. At least you did not do something truly stupid out there. It will cost you some home time due to DAC etc until it cools off.

I was a speeder. Eventually by DAC I got too hot for semi work, so I used a plan B to run dump truck with family and friends I knew. That worked out well because there is no #### DAC to tell anyone how bad I am .

The firing seems harsh. The ticket sounds vague enough it might no be too bad after some time passes. Improper lane usage could be ignoring a truck lane restriction or HOV restriction.

I would think you can find another driving Job. I'm sorry I don't have specifics. Stay positive,
You might try looking for work at any Temp Driver services, some are called Driver Leasing or Driver Solutions, something like that

Everybody gets fired sometimes. I mean I can't be the only one. Company's protect their CSA score. Being tow from the scene makes it a DOT reportable accident and shame on you. Finding a new job should be easy enough. I have never been out of work for more then a week, except by choice.

Now the really hard question. Have you learned anything for the experience? Would you do the same thing if the situation happened again or have you figured out your mistake? As a pilot we have the use of simulators to put us in situations where we will make mistakes but have to safety of computers to keep us alive. There are some truck simulators but most of our learning is done on the job. You have been given a rare opportunity to experience the lost of control of a Semi and live to tell about it. If you learned from the experience you will be a better driver because of it.

If you have not paid your tic. yet find a lawyer to fight acc. ticket, try calling road/law they are the go to legal serv. for OOIDA 888 276 8000, then you can have a better chance of getting hired on with a non dac W-2 truck co. if you lose in court you can start looking at 1099 co. that will put you back in a truck?

That was one for the post. I tried to make mine a teaching moment if he did not already learn.

Otherwise he will do it again and again and again until industry makes sure he cannot be hired for this ever again.
