Most likely one tank ran dry and you lost your prime. You'll have to run it off starting fluid till it primes itself. Could be a bad check valve in the fuel return line behind the head, a leaking fuel filter(sucking air) or a broken fuel pump gear. Don't use too much starting fluid, it will crack a piston.

My 14 liter Detroit has a mechanical primer pump off the back of the air compressor.

If it has a Davco filter you can remove the top cap and fill it with diesel and it will help prime it....

If it doesn't have the clear Davco, you'd have to drop a fuel filter an fill it with diesel. Watch using ether, too much and it screws your compression rings up, then it won't want to start without it. We always had 2 people, one cranking the engine (with a foot on the throttle 3/4 full) and the other shooting short bursts of ether until it re-primed itself.

Thanks for the advice everybody. My phone died a while back and I just got it charged so I'm going to try filling the filters and see if that helps. I'm trying to avoid the ether and use a minimal amount

If the filters are empty, yea you need to remove and fill them lol. You could pump the primer handle til your eyeballs fall out if the filter is empty. I would do that rather than trying to crank it and prime it with ether.

So its almost 24 hours later, what was it?

Everyone was right. I must have ran it too low and it sucked air in. I only had to give it two small shots and she ran great, and is still running.

I do have a sputter at around 1500-1650 rpms though. I've had it since I got it. Could this be lack of fuel? Weak fuel pump?
