So when is this supposed shortage of drivers suppose to get freight rates to go up. One of the biggest complaints a lot of O/O's I've read is freight rates are rock bottom, and have been that way for a while.

Am I missing something? Wouldn't "robot trains" make a lot more sense? Or maybe more trains? or maybe more HOS hours?

This whole "robotic truck" thing sounds like a push for government subsidies and grants for some well-connected technology companies to build this fictitious robot truck. The government will buy into any BS concept that might mean fewer jobs for born and bred Americans.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. The government can't even run a commuter train system, they certainly aren't capable of developing a robot truck technology and all the "wired infrastructure" upgraded the roads would require.

U r correct, the govt is an organized crime entity(federal mafia). They steal citizen money and give to companies who's lobbyists have persuaded(donations etc...) politicians aka "criminals" to attempt to develop this technology irregardless of whether it makes any #### sense. As far as I am concerned the govt is now one huge criminal enterprise and the enemy of the people they once served.

I'm all for hoisting the Jolly Rodger in a world of robot trucks.

No driver means nobody to check the seals.

I still think we will have automated trucks on the road within 10-15years, in the sense of a pilot truck and couple automated units following behind. Modern farmers can link John Deere tractors together, farmer sets the path and the rest of the equipment follows the pilot equipment's orders-It's actually amazing to watch, one guy tilling a 150ft swath at a time with all the co-op equipment linked up.

Yes. This is true. And the huge, open fields have more obstacles and lights and erratic traffic and missing paint lines and GPS signal drift areas than the interstates. //sarcasm off
