    OK so after a bit of reading I found not too many people ask this question.After finishing school and getting hired for a company how long is the average trucker looking at being able to do his first long haul,realistically speaking. This is what I truly want to do.

    If you're asking about getting your first solo run. Anywhere from 2 - 15 weeks. Depending on the company.

    If you're asking about your first "long" run. Expect it to happen within the first week or so, depending on the company...again.

    I was asking about the "long" run.Any idea what companies will give me the long runs? I wanna do my research now so I can have a solid plan later on.

    Check into reefers. Your odds will be better.

    Many companies are reserving the longer runs for teams. Solo's have been relegated to short hops for the most part. But smaller companies that pull reefers are the most likely to run a solo coast to coast.

    We got long runs right away after our company training was over. THat lasted about 7 weeks with our OTR trainers.

    If I remember correctly, one of my first runs went from Arkansas to South Carolina. At the time, I thought that was a long run.
    Just how "long" of a run do you want?

    I had a friend that worked for Southern Refrigerated Transportation. He was solo & made great miles. They require experience though. Good luck.

    Well to be honest it wouldn't bother me at all to have a run clear from the eastern shore of VA straight to the far west of washington state(if possible of course) and repeat it over again.A little about me? I'm 23 Single with no kids no house and I like money and driving.I could pack my clothes and hit the road in about a days time and it just wouldn't phase me.

    Just as danc........mentioned it is clearly dependant on the company and your dispatcher.

    When your disparcher feels confident you are capable of delivering on time and your PPW is not a mess........hit the road and don't look back......

    You have to earn that work, it can not be planned on........too many factors.........it will happen.......just do your job better than your best and be careful........

    Southern will train a driver. I have a friend there that is a trainer. Been with them for about 8 years. Hails from Washington. So he knows his stuff in the mountians ;)

    But, I wouldn't work for them again, for $1.00 a mile. They keep "some" people moving. Then drop the ball on others...completely.
