So, here's my question. I have two different lanes that I run quite often. These are both locations with no back hauls available so I'm taking that into consideration when pricing. Typical loads are 5,000-12,000 lbs
The first is 150 loaded miles. I will drop this load off and the following week I will pick back it back up. I'm charging $550 per trip on that one.
The second is 550 loaded miles one pick one drop. I'm coming home empty every time. I'm at $1650 for this one.
Just wanted some opinions from others on if you think the pricing is fair. I understand everyone has different operating costs etc..
Is my pricing out of line...

Just took a load to Tucson from Phx for $600 directly to jobsite, came back empty. Shipper crying, why is it so expensive?
I say, cause you call me Monday for a hot load for Tuesday! -
That's ok. I cannot count that low in mileage with the little ones (Please no offense, All trucking is righteous...) you seem to make a good profit particulary the 150 mile overnight.
Bakerman Thanks this. -
Guess I don't know enough about van-kept getting calls from a local shipper for van work, now I have one. Called me Thursday asking about Friday. I was booked. They asked what kinda $ I'd charge for it (92loaded miles I think it came out to) $1,000; + detention after 1 hour- if you give me 3 days heads up. Otherwise: $1,450 plus detent.. Real quiet....
"Is that in your wheelhouse for pricing?"
Oh, no not at all
"Well that's what I'm charging, good luck n talk to you on the next one!"
Lmao
I don't need any customers that don't have any money to spend!Bakerman, spyder7723 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
So 1450 on three day notice? He ran?
There is one thing about freight, always someone hungry and willing to undercut you.
I wonder if there are many competition in your area? I would think so. -
$1450 with 1 day notice
$1000 with 3 day notice
Guess a lot of guys think ct is a bad market so they'll take any bad price they can get -
Prices look good to me. 300 mi round trip, no overnight pretty good. The other with at least one overnight is decent. Especially if you can snag a backhaul once in awhile. These days you are fortunate to get those rates.

Here is another thing every time you go to that dead area always look on the load board. I have been coming down thru a area that once in a blue moon has something on the load board. Well three weeks ago I called on a load a boom it is railroad freight they have stuff going back up my way. Two weeks in a row and tomorrow I will be calling them again because I am in their area. Their stuff hardly gets to the load board because they have people calling them. You just never know.
