    Hi folks,
First post here I am hoping to get a little help. I just picked up a t800 with a factory 550 2ws 3406e and an rtlo-18918b. I have been waiting to buy this truck for about a year and finally got to seal the deal. I got the truck home and found the turbo is cracked. I was going to order the BW 177148 but now I'm wondering if I would be better off upgrading the turbo while I am at it. I am considering doing the BorgWarner 175958, 175964, 171698 combination. How would this work on a stock 550? I don't plan on any big hp number but maybe a switch to a 550 brakesaver tune some day and any increase in efficiency or fuel mileage would be nice. Or is the 17748 a better choice for 550hp?
Tried to pm Mr. Hanley with the question but I guess new guys can't do that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lot of guys I know are running the non wastegated 0r7200 but myself I am running a C16 turbo with a non wastegated housing. Very happy with it and jake works great. It would work good on a stock program but please do yourself a favor and get the brakesaver file. 175963 on turbo then the exhaust housing is 171698. Changing the housing is a little extra than the ones you have listed but well worth it. The Borg for the 7200 I believe is a 175269, it's only rated about 400 hp I never ran it but know some guys that swear by it and they have over 600hp. My turbo has yet to climb above 950 lugging at 1100-1200 rpms and I have 725hp.

Thanks for the reply I have been loosing my mind trying to piece together info from all the versions forums. I found a good source for a new 175963 turbo and the 171698 housing. I think I'm getting them both for $1200. My biggest concern is it will be laggy with the 550 hp files. I read one post where a member went back to the 0r7923 because the stage 1 was to laggy? I am always hauling in the mountains there are no flat roads here. A lot of time it's slow speed windy roads.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a brakesaver file?

175963 alone is laggy, but when you put the 1.32 housing on it has great spool up. You would probably be happy with the 175269 (Or7200). There is some coal haulers using it around here hauling heavy on back roads. I ran a 177148 on my old b model but I just couldn't keep egt down with advanced timing. Be careful buying Borg Warner turbos there are some online places selling Borg Warner numbers but you get some Chinese knockoff. Make sure it is in a Borg box/turbo driven.

BW sells that turbo now so you dont have to build it, 1496 988 0000 is the part number.

I find your issues with the 177148 interesting as any other person that has ran it on a B/C has had no issues with EGT, and in all reality advancing timing cools off the exhaust by giving more time to burn.

    snowman_w900 and maggard359 Thank this.

Thats what i was thinking. Shouldn't have egt issues with a 177148 on a b.

And yes advanced timing cools off egts.

Good chance I never quite got the timing adjusted right though. I swapped for another turbo and no problems since. Thanks for the info on the 1496 number I didn't know that I had the housing already and ended up buying the c16 turbo to go on my other Frankenstein motor.

I ordered the 175963 and 1.32 non-gatedhousing last night I am getting them both for $1200. It should be a real borgwarner I already got a 177148 from the same guy and it was genuine borg. it was damaged in freight though so I sent it back.
I got another question now. I looked up the turbo that borg builds (1496 988 0000). It emphasizes that it has a 360* trust bearing and a forged compressor wheel. Now I am wondering if i am missing out on these improvements by buying 175963 and switching the turbine out? Maybe this is just marketing hype and 175963 has forged compressor wheel and 360* bearing anyway and they just stated it to make it sound better? anyone know about that?

175963 comes with a cast wheel. If the 1496 is offering the billet wheel I would have to pick that one. I paid 1400 for my 175963 and didn't have anything in the housing. you are getting a very good deal at 1200 for it and housing, I will be curious to see what the 1496 runs.

1496 seems to be $1850-2000 range from the places I have seen so far. Turbo supply had a reman for $1500
