It isn't a lifestyle. It's a business. I hate that saying that trucking is a life style. That's a crock. It's no more a life style than any of the hundreds of other professions that require travel for work.

I personally hate taking time off work. I'm too afraid of the mess I'd be going back to.

With no children and a job that all things considered I like, all is well in my world. :)

BAH. you can live in a dungeon with a positive mind. all of that BS can be out-thunk!

all i need is an internet connection. beer/drugs only waste time you could be spending listening to an audio book or watching a documentary. i hate all family social functions deep down. I want to enjoy them, I want to be there for my family, but the truth is they hardly know me and I hardly know them and they only make me feel like I want to run and hide when I am suddenly in front of them expected to speak. I have 0 buddies. I would like some but all of my memories of friends are of us competing w/ each other, fighting with each other, and a whole lot of senseless jokes. I can make myself laugh at the fact i haven't ####ed in 5 months i really don't need a best friend to point it out around a firepit.

Lets see what else.... Holidays can be nice but I wont mind my family having the perspective of me being a hard worker rather than a holidays type of guy. as far as for me? Holidays are similar to weddings. I spend 90% of them thinking about how bad I feel like a rabbit surrounded by wolves. Watching 54 inch cable TV from a couch? I never liked couches they're just stiff beds. & if you lay real close to a 24 inch it fills your field of vision much better than a 54'' hanging on the wall. ;) my hobby involves the internet, & there are a ton of hobbys you can git into on the internet. learn to code websites. join forums. I was never into sports. You won't catch me yelling touchdown at a yankees game.

Playing catch with my kid every night? If I have a kid or two you can bet I'll be having "face-time" with them more than some work at home fathers spend face to face with their kids. :p thank god for webcams & the internet. & I figure if I wind up falling in love & having kids, trucking is a temp job. Maybe I can save up for the next 5 years and wind-up with my own business one day. People need a guy to pick their dog's #### up I hear.

It's a lifestyle us "retired" folks that are done working. :)

Although personally, grinding miles for cpm has its moments , there are other options, but everything has a price...

Trucking is perfect for me because I am an immigrant and like every true immigrant I love working long hours for peanuts and trucking provides plenty of opportunities to do so.

I was told that whatever job you want, find the person doing it and ask them for advise on how to get there (education, location, experience). So my advise to you (everyone) is to find the person doing your job or making the amount of money you want to make and talk to them. I started OTRing in March 2010, in June 2016 I was able to buy the truck you see above. I pull containers from the port, and am home everynight. I choose the loads I want to take, the ports or railyards I deal with and when or if I want to work. Needless to say, all the Hooters girls know me by my first name. Working about 9hrs a day, 4-5 days a week, I gross about $80,000. Far more than I need, but my wife works too and i feel bad if i did any less. lol
    Go find that person!
