What do you think of P/FJ's new policy of removing handicapped truck parking?

I told them I would not get into pissing contests with members. Do everyone a favor and read the law.

So, at 22:00, the truck stop is full all except for the three handicapped spaces. A driver comes in with 10 minutes left on both his 11 and his 14. The "handicapped" driver who may not show up until the next day still has a higher priority then the driver who is there then and has an immediate need for a space to park?

I was under the impression that it could. If it was bad enough it or the medication could cause one to pass out. I stated earlier that I don't have a problem with the handicapped spots. I'm sure someone can pull van freight with a disability. I just know that the guy with a low boy and a pc360 tack hoe is in no way handicapped.

Dirt lots never had them. You've never heard a fuzz out of that.

That sucks but I bet there were 3 people ahead of him that would have filled those spots it they weren't marked. He'd still be in the same position. Removing the handicapped designation from the very few spots that have them will do nothing to alleviate the lack of truck parking, which is the real problem.

I posted about this a few years back, wondering why there were handicapped spots and the responses were quite educational. Lot's of reasons someone able to do the job may have a real need for close parking.

Aren't the "reserved" spots always the closest to the building? Certainly appears to be from what I've seen. A driver with an issue can always get on the app and reserve a premium spot...

Read the ADA. They are to be provided at no cost. If a trucker is coming in at 2200 he can pay to park too.

Maybe the plan is to eliminate the handicapped, add more paid spaces to increase revenue, and my guess is PFJ will come out and say if you are handicapped, show your placard for reserved space with waived fees.

I'm well aware of the ADA. I'm also well aware that if you need a handicapped parking space, you shouldn't be driving a truck. This isn't a desk job and if you can pass a DOT physical, your ### can walk 50-60 yards from the parking lot to the building. Like others have pointed out, for each driver that legitimately needs a spot, there are 5 others who milk the system and take advantage of it. Sadly I know a handful of people I'm referring to that have placards and can move much better than I can with an MCL injury...
