True, but most companies farm out employment verifications, and will only confirm dates of employment and pay rates for fear of litigation.

Tickets and accidents can be found on public records unless they occurred in a state that does not share information with the state that issued your license. If you are in a collision that is reportable to DOT, whether or not it was preventable, get a copy of the police report, especially if you were not deemed at fault.

If you are in a position to need to abandon your truck, document your grievance(s) and your company's response to them.

 

Start employment date / end employment date.
Most companies can't say any more than that - not even whether you were honorably discharged or let go in disgrace. Human Resources won't allow you to give anything but absolutely neutral references - nothing to swing a future employers bias in favor or against. 'These are the facts, ma'am'. It's the personal references everyone should be checking - I call Alexandria X., who you listed, and i get some dirt... Well, now I know something.

 

Never abandon a truck or load.... Never. Return the truck back to the yard, remember there are things you can do if you sre that pissed at the company once the truck been returned if you plan it right. ( soada in the DEF tank and some other stuff) It will save your DAC and unless someone see you doing something crazy, they cant prove it was you. Now I dont recommend doing the above, but there are ways to deal with companies like CRE.

 

Abandonment is the worst of worst. (Ive done it actually, cost me only three years...)

With that said, abandoning a truck in today's world could possibly get you jailed etc. You will lose far more than CRE would.

Im sorry you lost the house etc. Im assuming financial cash issues. If you were not doing well in CRE then you could have begun to seek employment elsewhere. Trucking is a very hard way to earn a dollar. (And to keep at least half of that...)

 

####, I got close to the Same story. Screw 'em. I left their truck in Denver at the sap bros. truck stop. That way 15yrs ago. Of course I never worked for a mega carrier again. No love loss. You'll be ok.

 

I suppose now that I'm older I advocate for myself better. Maybe if I was just starting out I might have let somebody take advantage of me. Now my motto is I don't work for free. If the truck breaks down and it's your truck. Your gonna pay me to sit if I'm away from home. If you don't I will bein it back when it's fixed and move on. There are a lot of good companies out there. The company I work for now will rent us a truck if ours is in the shop.

 

I think that's true of many... I know I don't sweat stuff like I used to when I was younger... but it's also easier to call BS when you have options too.

 

30 years driving and I've not returned equipment 3 times I always informed them where their equipment was and why I can't return it. Never had a problem. Of them 30 years 27 were with non DAC companies mostly smaller. Most of them were only looking for safety issues. As far as backgound checks with former employers they can only say so much about your employment record by law mostly yes or no you worked there and what dates and drug screen records not much else. DAC is not the monster every one thinks it is. Of course return equipment if possible but don't be scared of DAC.
