From Western Pennsylvania. I want to get my CDL. Looking into Rohel,Werner,Stevens,Pam...etc Company sponsored training. Anyone have experience with any of these. Should I just get my CDL on my own? I do have access to a truck my father owns his own truck. NEED HELP. not sure which or what route to take

Roehl is good and they have a school in PA. Probably make the best paychecks in their National Fleet. They pay you $500.00 a week while attending the school.

Either one of these, you can't go wrong. I worked for roehl as a starter, was a great experience. Both companies have good equipment and lots of freight in and out of your area.

I'm looking to get my cdl in the spring, if I were you, get it on your own. Seems you're stuck w/the company if you get cdl through them them until the end of your contract, or a bill for the schooling if you leave early.

FFE (Frozen Food Express) accepts Illinois students for their school. Not all trucking company schools are bad. Private school is good if you want to work for a company that doesn't have their own school.

Leaning towards rohel. But a local company said they would hire me with no experience just worried that I don't have any seat time. I have driven a truck before (my dads) but never with a trailer or on a interstate. Sucks changing careers from heavy equipment operator to OTR trucker. Thanks.

The most difficult part of cdl school or passing the test at the DMV is the pre-trip inspection. May have to check or answer 75 - 150 questions at the DMV when you test out.
Youtube videos are a start; check them for "Pre-trip Inspections."
It's not like the old days where it was easy to get the CDL.
Some DMV's are strict; you must touch each part your inspecting, name the part, say what you're looking for (bent, loose, broken, etc.) Check for proper nomenclature; is it "air pressure guage" or "air pressure indicator" or is it "air line" or "air hose" and the brake parts names are important. Is it "brake shoe" or "brake lining", etc. Some states actually fail a driver on nomenclature and send him home before he gets to the road test.

Well it works out like this if you dont stay with pam a year you owe drivers solutions 5995. If you get your cdl on your own dime its roughly 1600 cash but there are more opportunities in the ds route or other companies for that matter. If you decide to leave driver solutions sends you a bill for 150 a month and most companies offer tuition reimbersment.
