The recruiter wants to put me on a bus to nashville and said i would do a 4 day orientation there and be given a trainer for 4 weeks.

She told me a few things i didn't really like though. Home time sounds kinda "Iffy", And theres a $2,500 penalty that you will owe them if you quit before a year is up.

I asked the recruiter about regional and dedicated and didn't really get a clear answer if anything was available.

What attracted me to this company was the quick refresher course, No other company seems to offer this and i have been out of the saddle for 9 years so Western seems like the only company that will get someone like me back on the road without making me go through trucking school again.

At one time Schneider would go back 10 years. I think Melton will count all your old experience towards the starting pay but will send you with a trainer if you can still shift and pass road test. I also heard that Maverick doesn't care how long you been out if you still hold a cdl.

If it were me I would rather just do a quick refresher coarse and hit the road with a much better company.

    I agree with @RollingRecaps
I think a company charging someone that simply needs a little time with a trainer (versus full education and training) is complete BS. YOU'VE PAID FOR SCHOOL...don't let these guys threaten you with FULL charges should you leave them before a years up. That in and of itself is a bad sign...means they want you to know right off the bat that they own your ###, and intend to take advantage of that.
Move on!!! And tell them why.
They're not going to care....and when you tell them why you've decided to look elsewhere, it probably won't go any further than whomever you speak with on the phone...but atleast you've told SOMEONE that their policy and practices stink.
    Good luck.

I think i might just do it anyway. If i do quit or get fired before a year is up im not paying them ####, They can send the bill but it wont be paid. I may even wipe my ### with it.

A $2,500 penalty that you will owe them if you don't put up with their BS for a year. That right there would have made me tell them to stick it as far as they can get it. these freakin' bottom feeders they could all go to hell as far as I'm concerned. Most especially with the quality of driver such as they are, that Western Express has. I rank them right up there with Swift. I've had 4 ........ count them 4
Trucks in the past year back into me and and every single one of them was a Western Express truck. I don't know where you live but there is better. I am willing to bet that if you look hard enough there is a small family outfit that would put you with somebody long enough until they gain confidence in you. Most especially since you had previous experience regardless how long ..STAY AWAY FROM BIG COMPANIES ! !!!!

Yea im looking at other companies, After talking with other people i get a bad vibe about that place.

I might even look into expiditing.

I really want to do local with someone like Estes but they all want 1yr exp.
