When trucking companies as if you ever have had a suspension and revocation, are they really able to see if you EVER had a suspension and if so how can I find out the dates of my suspension. The driving records I can get in my state are 5 or 7 years I believe so how could they see farther than that? I have no idea of the dates I was probably 16 or 17 at the time and I'm 34 now?

They have a method to do a deep search nationwide. If you got a traffic ticket in high school, they'll find out about it.

They go by dmv print out for 10 years for each state. Every state has a ten year print out go to your dmv and ask for your 10 year print out it shouldnt be more than $15.

@Chinatown nailed it. However let me allay your fear a bit. I doubt there are many companies that will hold a suspension against you that old.

Depends on how far back they can go.

In utah. You can get your complete history or the standard 3 years or the cdl 10 years. $6 per print out.

I answer no. Mine is too old and they won't dig back that far. It's expunged from my criminal history so the only way anyone will find out is to pull up the complete driving history.

Expunged or not, there is a court record somewhere and it can be found. Most companies do a limited search on your background, some don't limit it.

A while back I was handed a printout on me that listed a speeding ticket I got in South Carolina when I was in my 20s. I am today 58 years old. This is one reason I try to tell people in these boards to be mindful of databases. A lot of these databases are linked now. A properly formatted Boolean search of these databases can just about tell somebody what color underwear you have on. I am not going to say which company because I just don't feel like getting into a pissing contest. I was in the office of a good friend sometime ago. This person is the head of a carriers human resources dept. He showed me just how easy it is to search someone by using me as the target. It shocked me what this person was able to find about about me. With just my SS # as well as my old Drivers License information and my last 10 years residence info he got back almost 3 full pages of info about an hour later. School, Military, Driving, criminal and accident records. Because of insurance databases most of my medical history was part of it as well. Because of this I have found it to be the epitome of irresponsibility for anyone to advise a driver to 'hide' their history when applying for a job in trucking. I know of several drivers that have screwed themselves into the ground because they withheld information on an application went to an orientation and had this information to land. One of these drivers just recently found a job. They are all working now as far as I know, but it was not easy for them or me for that matter because I expended a bit of time and energy helping them.

Screw them, the record search may reveal a behavior 25 years ago that only leads others to judge people. It seems everyone is guilty of something regardless of who they may actually be today.

I actually agree. If I am hiring somebody I want to just meet them and talk for a few minutes. I want to see what that person is today. With a few exceptions I am not going to worry about what somebody was 25 years ago. I mean of course if my company hauls placarded hazmat I need to know your criminal history to make sure you can get hazmat and/or TWIC. As far as traffic offenses go most anything that is older then 5 to 10 years is ignored anyway even if you list it.

Yep...had an OWI in 1990. Answered "No" to the "Have you EVER had your license suspended/revoked" question on an application in 2010 (I think) and I was turned down for the job for lying. That's 20 freaking years right there boys and girls. THEY CAN FIND IT!
