So effectively they are making company policy. Wonder if your managers have thought about it that way.

Our diesels get much better mileage than that as well. The cost benefit to running the CNG trucks comes in at the fuel pump. We have arrangements with natural gas suppliers and pay far less than the pump price, which varies from $1.19 to $2.59/G depending on vendor and location. One of our managers told me we pay less than $0.80/G. Compare that to the current pump price or bulk price of diesel.

Oh, and they make corporate suit types happy with reduced tailpipe emissions, as well as neatly avoiding no-idling regulations.

Do your trucks idle or do they have a shut off? I drove a CNG truck at my old job for a couple months. It shut off in 5 minutes and no way to prevent it.

I drive a variety of trucks each week since one or two always breaks down.... But most of our trucks stay running. We have several that are programmed to shut down after five minutes if the temperature goes above 36°F. Then there are a few that will automatically shut of regardless how warm or cold it is...

They shut off after 5 minutes. However, we can bypass that by revving it when it warns for idle shutdown, then it'll stay running indefinitely. I suspect it's due to the need to warm up the Allison transmissions in winter conditions...they're not happy if driven cold.
