That's the other problem with our problem child driver. He eats in the truck but can't be bothered to pick up his trash. And get all butt hurt when we ask him to clean up after himself.
He has broken no less than 8 or our trucks to varying degrees.
Bent or removed 4 steps, broken door handles, bent the lock bar on a swing door trailer.
He's slower than molasses in January. Won't even go to a stop if its after a certain time (in his head). Won't call ahead to ask if anyone will stay or find out if they have a 2nd shift.

MACK E-6 and Mike2633 Thank this.

It was some thugs in a C-Series Mercedes Benz that was 11 years old, hot rodding around. They looked pretty cool until they hit my dads mini van and deployed the air bags in there car and then went off running down the street.

Interesting reading about some other companies and terminals and their respective truck situations. We have trucks that are assigned to runs, not to drivers. So if you take a new run for another bid, you 'lose' your tractor. The only drivers that have trucks assigned to them individually are trainers.

Some of our linehaul drivers have to share with a P&D driver, if that's how management matches up the run / shift. Good thing with being a break bulk terminal, is that we usually get the newest equipment. Our oldest tractors are usually 2-3 years old. Right now we have a few 2014 and 2013 trucks floating around, but most are 2016 and 2017 Volvo VNLs and Freightliner Cascadias.

I like having an assigned truck. It's nice to open up the door and not get smacked in the face with the odor of ###. When I have to take a general population truck, I'm wiping the steering wheel till my wipes are white, like wiping my own ###. Some of these guys must like their steering wheels and controls dirty like their own hole. A large part of my pre-trip is cleaning up somebody else's filth. Thank God for assigned trucks.

Amen. Always a pleasure when even us wild turn guys can grab a '17 if we look hard enough. And amusing too when the smokers are complaining they can't find one old enough to smoke in, not that it stops them. Our unassigned trucks are usually kept pretty tidy. Not perfect, but not trashed either. I still love my Lysol wipes though.
