How could you spend $1,900 for fuel taxes in a single quarter?

The lease payments will not come to $900/week but when you add all the other costs you have with a lease will be in the range of $900/week with most of these lease programs that is what I have seen. The base lease may be in the range of $500-600/week. In addition you will be responsible for paying insurance, base plates, insurance, etc., on the truck. You will pay for the comprehensive insurance which may cost around 5-5.5% of the stated value of the truck. There is usually a mandatory maintenance contribution to leases. I know of one carrier that requires that the contractor pay $0.17/mile for maintenance that is non refundable. Leases will vary somewhat from one carrier to another, but they mostly have the same requirements and costs. I think that it would be difficult to make money with most of these leases unless you lived on the road. Even then, it would be difficult. For anyone looking at leasing a truck, I would make sure to get a list of ALL deductions associated with the lease and then look at average revenue for their current lease operators and see if it makes sense. Most will not be successful for a number of reasons.

I spent $1.80 the second quarter. That is the least that I have spent in a long time. Last quarter I spent over $90. We are checking to see whether an error could have been made. I rarely spend over $25/quarter per truck.

I just finished mine for Q4 and paid.......oh wait got a refund of $80. That's about normal for me each quarter.

So that is where you're loosing on your fuel taxes. Sometimes what you think is the cheapest fuel is really the most expensive fuel when you look at the net fuel price. To determine your net fuel cost, take the pump price and subtract that state fuel tax. You really want to fuel up where you have the lowest net fuel cost.
