I hate this industry. I'm tired of the lying recruiters. I'm tired of companies blaming the driver for the company's incompetence. I'm tired of the stress of dealing with arguably the dumbest group of 4-Wheel drivers in the Western Hemisphere. I'm tired of having no social life. I'm tired of being stuck in a truck for weeks on end to make the same money as someone that's home every day. I'm tired of stupid crap like "Hey, we know that accident on your PSP wasn't your fault but.....we still won't touch you. Sorry". (No accidents on my record BTW, these are experiences of others I've witnessed). I'm tired of the Corporate Kiss butts that come to forums like this just to shoot down every single driver with a grievance, because we're all, you know, Lazy Whiners that are just mad because the Trucking Company wont buy us a Pony. Whatever. o_O

I'm tired of companies bringing you 700 miles to orientation just to waste a week of your time and disqualify you over something minor that you disclosed to them on the application but for some reason they wait until you get there to start checking your Driving/Work/Criminal record (again, no record personally). I also hate endless complainers. I hate people that complain about something and do nothing to change their situation. So here I am. My basic question is simple:

What are some careers that a Truck Driver with experience, no criminal record and good work ethic can transition into without a large amount of training?

I've looked into possibly becoming a Driver Manager. Companies don't seem to want much experience for that. I would consider "Dispatcher" as well but some companies merge those two roles. Tow trucks are out as everyone seems to want experience. Same with Dump trucks.

I understand many of you LOVE Trucking. Great. I respect that. I f**king hate it, so I'm wanting to get the hell out of it. Please respect that. I understand some will come here and be jackknobs to me, that's cool. I have nothing against Truck Drivers. I'm tired of this job, I hate it and I want to move on. Isn't that what you're supposed to do?

Thank you all for the advice and have a blessed and Happy New Year. :D

So if you hate it so much why would you want to on the desk side of it ?

Just pick anything you ave ever thought would would be a cool way to make a living that you enjoy and do what ever it takes to make it happen .

What ever you choose I hope you the best .
Also thanks for not being one of the whiners that don't just get out because you hate it .

Most manufacturersuccessful, plants and such in my area all go through temp services. I tried it for 3 months last year. It was nice having friends, and being treated like I matter, actually getting paid holidays and overtime. But I needed more money to pay off some bills quickly so I came back. Once those 2 bills are gone, I don't know what I'll do. I'm 44 so I'm seeing the age bias when I go to places to apply and that scares me. I'd really like to work at a waste water plant or a chemical plant.

If you want out of this industry completely, I don't have a suggestion besides do something that you know and like. If you stay in trucking, but don't drive, be an HONEST broker. We all could use more of them. Cheap freight sucks....I can't compete with a mega carrier. Good luck.

This is true; a few cruise lines hire older guys to swoon the older blue haired women on cruise ships and get paid to do it. Dance with them, chat, have dinner, etc.
If you're married, tell the wife you got a job as a Merchant Seaman washing dishes.

Just throwing it out there but if any of you hate driving why not find a good regional/local job where you gotta touch light freight? Like pallet jack unload? I'd drive a average of 1500 miles a week at Jb hunt but make more than OTR by far and be home lots..

Also doing local/regional you usually get a dedicated run doing the same routes every week

Stop doing something u hate and resent. There are plenty of opportunities around. Skilled trades are booming again. Try those?
