Dang. How can someone paid weekly need advances? For years before I went into business for my self I was paid once a month.
I am 40 now and have been working since I was 15. Since I was 18 or so I don't think I have ever had less than $500 in my bank account. I have many times not had enough money to do things I wanted to do but I have never been completely broke. I stop buying crap before it gets to that point.

Bear in mind if you're getting your advance at a Pilot/Flying J with 50+ gallons of fuel, only the first $200 is free. Beyond that, there's a 1.5% fee that's deducted.
Not sure how much it is at other truck stops, I only go to PFJ. I'm never taking the cash advance for me, it's always for lumpers that dispatch doesn't want to wake up at 3am to authorize a Comchek for. -
None of the companies I have worked for charged me to get my money.
i undestand that the mega carriers do, and it seems to vary. -

My husband works as an OTR truck driver and he is taking out $200-$300 a week. I can not understand why so much. That seems like a lot to me especially if her already has $500 coming out with reglar deductions. His check is normally around $300-$500 weekly. Seems very low to me but what do the wife’s know of an OtR truck driver?

The best thing you can do, is NOT to take advances.
May have to run a tight budget for a while, that’s ok.
Advances are just like a payday loan scam. You get charged for them. Maybe not at the truck stop, but check your settlement, you will see it. -
spyder7723 Thanks this.

Some companies fire borrowers.
Always build savings by setting aside a portion of your pay no matter how small. (And do not spend it.)
On my life, you do not borrow ever on the road. If you are that bad off, go home and save yourself the trouble. -
That's all I ever used it for. With weekly checks, no reason to ever use it except maybe your first month on the job or so.
