Non moving violation. Pay the fine and keep the receipt and never hear about it.

You may get a judge to agree with you. Maybe not. But the law doesn't say you have to be legal when you loaded. It says you have to be legal while operating on a public roadway. I tell all my trainees to always weigh lumber. You simply can't trust mill scales. Or their theoretical weights on the bills.

For $78, it's probably going to cost more to fight it. I doubt the water added up the difference in weight. One of the scales was out of calibration. I'd lean towards the mill scale being off.

He could've picked up a Quintet of Fat Lot Lizards afterwards and didn't want to admit it to the Scale Master that they were in his Sleeper when he crossed the Scale.

Never trust a scale at a shipper, with the CAT at least they stand behind what they sell. In most places, anything under a thousand over, they usually just yell a little and inspect the truck and send you on your way, but VA is really into making money. No points, CSA or even DAC, just give us your money and continue down the road

I agree that you should never trust a shipper scale. And I'll add, especially at lumber mills. But you are being a bit harsh on VA. True that they may be less lenient. Overweights are not treated as amovingviolation. So no points are assessed on your licence in at least most states. CSA/PSP is federal, and overweights don't count against you in that program. And DAC is a private company, and no law endorsement agencies of any sort report to DAC.

You missed my point. Points and stuff he mentioned are not assessed in any state. Va isn't doing anything different there. Overweights don't add points in any program anywhere. And to imply Va is just grubbing money while doing you the favor of "not assessing any points if you just pay up" is simply erroneous. No points will be assessed under any program anywhere anyway. He didn't do a "kind assessment of the facts" because no "facts" where presented.

My good lad; I missed nothing. The POINT was that VA is hungry for cash. They are. Fact. More so than their neighbors; not that it's a big deal.

No implication was made of a "favor" of not assessing points. An ASSERTION was made that that VA will do anything, anytime, anywhere in their jurisdiction to make the cash register ring.

    Let's not overthink this.
