Dave: I believe those fleets may do quite a few deliveries and such. I'm 51 and a bit arthritic, I can handle a pallet jack and tote a few boxes, but making it a regular thing would not be a good decision for me.
Special K: that is what I am hoping. In addition, I hope it may give me enough experience with equipment to maybe get a lowboy gig. I'd love to do oversized loads, equipment deliveries, etc. The advanced trip planning and challenging driving appeal to me.

Take the local job and while doing that, do some networking with smaller local outfits such as tankers hauling fuel, etc. The main thing is to keep that cdl active doing something. If you decide to do long haul later, many companies will hire you and put you through their own refresher to bring you up to date on rules and regulations and logging.
Many long haul outfits are driver no-touch freight which is helpful considering your arthritis.DRAGON64 Thanks this. -
