Dotra,Good luck if you decide to follow thru with your plans. Although the trucking industry is pretty much high tech.that is only in a few areas. When you are driving that beast down a two lane road made for two compact cars,or when you are backing a trailer into a very crowded dock, you will wonder what happened to high tech. some things never change. From what I have seen the only high tech. is how you remain in touch with your dispatcher, and oh yeah,it is pretty nice high tech,to recieve directions to a customer by pressing a button on your QualCom.But on the lighter side it does not take a rocket scientist to drive a truck. It just takes paying attention to what you are taught, and whats going on around you,at all times.

I spoke w/ a recruiter from Schneider a few weeks ago... and they said there were not hiring from AZ and gave me a run around when I asked where they were hiring from. Thought I would retry again today... looked on their website and it showed they were hiring regional from the Phx metro area... called, got a recording (after plugging in my zipcode "for better service")... stated not hiring from this area. Called again, used a zipcode from NY... same thing. Called again, used a zipcode from NC... same thing. Called customer service and got sent to... a recording. Emailed for confirmation, but it seems that Schneider is hiring ONLY drivers with 6 mos. min. experience. They are no longer accepting students. I will wait and see if their email confirms this, but 3 tries and 3 states in three regions... no jobs available. If someone doe get through, or has the name and number for a recruiter, I would be interested in talking to them.

It's not a run around, the Scheider recruiter called me and told me that Scheider isn't hiring inexperienced drivers right now in the Dallas area. They plan to start again in Jan. so check back in November. She was very above board about it. Several areas had put a freeze on before now.

Makes sense to me.
And if y'all are currently drivin' for another company,
apply when they're acceptin' applications. Knowin' you have an option
can be like a light at the end of the tunnel,
instead of another train a-comin' --- round the bend.
Ya reckon.

And yeah, just because a company is hiring, that doesnt mean they have the miles. I got a letter from crete and I figured I would have to drive a pretty good number of miles every single week, consistently, in order to break even with what im making now. -
I spoke to a very nice recruiter just yesterday who stated that currently they are not hiring from pretty much Memphis to the West Coast. They did say they were hiring around Memphis but mostly for Bulk Division. He gave me no indication of when that might be changing. The funny part was when I said, "A big carrier like Schneider is good on drivers right now???" -
Just curious --- what was Schneider's reply?
Many companies are in the process of down-sizing using different methods.
Some have a lay-off.
Some have a freeze on new drivers as older Big trucks get sold,
and no new Big trucks are ordered to replace aging Big trucks, or the orders are greatly reduced.
They're attempting to streamline their operations to be more cost effective.
And others are just locking their office doors as they cut bait and count their losses.
I'm thinkin' the recruiters aren't always up to speed as to exactly what the company is thinkin' and/or doin'.
And they have to relay non-information to hundreds of callers who are seeking answers.
That can't be an easy task.
Ya reckon.
