I am a new driver and recently got involved in a at fault accident (in my personal vehicle) where I assumed a driver was going to merge into the traffic but they didn't and I struck the rear end of his car. On the crash report he cited me for "failure to yield" and "following too closely" Unfortunately, I also didn't have insurance and was cited and my license suspended for 3 months. I don't have any any other accidents or points on my record but I'm scared this will prevent me from getting another CDL job. I've spoken to companies such as Schneider and knight and they can't give me a answer until my app is on file because it's case by case. They did mention that it needed to be under 5 mph but the speed is not listed on the crash report and it was at a light so I don't see how I could have been going anything over 5mph. Someone please give me your best advice. I really need it.

No mega will go near you for years to come. Look into small mom and pop companies, construction, trash, straight truck stuff. If you didn't have time to react to somebody you "assumed" was going to stop, yet it was only a 5mph hit the question is going to be why did it even come to involve the cops as there shouldn't be any reportable damage AND how friggen close were you that you couldn't stop at that distance? You would have been better off with a speeding ticket. You need to take that ticket to court and get it knocked down. Failure to Yield AND the tailgating is redundant. unless your not describing what happened exactly.

You can find something by knocking on doors in your area; the small outfits.
Carolina Cargo might hire you; they give drivers a second chance. They do California turnarounds back to back.
USA Truck might give you a chance.
Do the online applications BEFORE any phone calls. Then call and say, "I'm checking on my job application."
    Remember, apply before calling.

How recent? I'd lawyer up and get that ticket and suspension ghosted. Better call Saul!

In AZ if there are no injuries and both vehicles can be driven from the scene the cops won't even show up.

The no insurance will most defiantly put you in the "high risk" group of drivers. You will be an SR-22 driver meaning higher premiums and most likely have to put an $ amount down as a bond with the state. This alone will put a red flag on fleets with you. Since now their insurance will have to reflect you.

The suspension does not help either....

The smaller companies would be the better choice...

Don't understand why some think a small company would hire someone that big companies won't?Most big companies are self insured which can give them more leeway on hiring that is one reason most large companies hire non experienced drivers, small companies are at the mercy of there insurance companies in respect to who they can hire in order to keep there insurance cost low.

MI is no injuries, and less than 1,000 in damages. Don't ask me how I know this. :)
