I had new Volvo 780 with I shift, only 9200 miles on board and have the problem, I had knocking noise under the dashboard on the passenger side. I guess it's AC issue, because noise appears when ac is on. Even when I was parked and engine is running ac still making this loud noice. I noticed that only way not to hear this freaking noise is to set the ac themperature on the maximum.
Also the ac it's not turn off completely, air is still blow insidethe cabin.
    someone deal with that?

Your hot/ cold door Actuator is acting up , inside it is a gearbox usually when i open them up i see the two gears clashing causing that noise your hearing also causing your a/c not completely shutting off

Yes, take it to a Volvo dealership and have them fix it, it's still under warranty, isn't it?

I had the same issue. Passenger side dash constant clicking. I took it to volvo 2 weeks after I bought the truck and they inspected it and said it was normal.

After a couple more nights of losing my mind while trying to sleep, I took it back and demanded they replace it. They did, under warranty and no more noise.

Big Don and Ezrider_48501 Thank this.

Alex, I strongly suggest that you read that warranty so you know what is and is not covered! Most dealers will BS you with "oh, that isn't covered," or some other horse crap. Know what is covered, and you go in armed to deal with them.

    dustinbrock Thanks this.

I'd have to agree with big don. As far as I know, every manufacturer offers a 1 year comprehensive warranty.

Heck I brought mine in for warranty because a cupboard door hinge was loose!

Thanks guys for advises. I have one more question, last two nights I sleep with engine idiling at 600 rpm then go up in the morning at 1100 rpm. I thought it was a regeneration that truck do automatically, but it didn't show any screen displays or messages on dash that regeneration is initiated. I was waiting for an hour for regeneration to be done, but truck was still idling at 1100 rpm. I've tried to turn off cruise or apply brake pedal but it didn't work, so I just switched gear in to drive position and rpm was going down.
Then I was try to perform manual regeneration but system shows isn't required. Didn't find anything in the owner manual that it helps me
I don't know if I should worry about, I recently purchased a Volvo, never drive before, drive Freightliners.

It should have said clean idle mode active on the dash. I dealt with this with my new one and volvo was useless in answering this question. You would think they know their own truck.......

Think of it as adaptive idle. The engine is smart. It is mostly for the cali clean idle that it does this....

If it's cold outside and your engine is starting to produce too much emissions and needs to warm up to keep the emission system running at peak efficiency, it will adjust the idle accordingly. It knows if it needs to be hotter or colder and will adjust the rpm on its own.
