Was a different world back in the day of two drivers licenses and 2 log books .
I wouldn't go back to that and those that can't get with the times are going to be out of luck
My former company still thinks this is a joke and will soon be back on a conditional rating .
Ya don't do your book on weekends anymore.

Two log books? You need three to really work it.

Hard to say to give an exact number; however, it's up around six million. Started driving when I was 19 in 1959 when all we needed was a thing called a chauffeurs licence (basically no training other than knowing how to start the truck). My CDL was pulled in 2013 because of night vision problems (I am actually glad they pulled me off the road because I was just too stupid to do it myself). Fifty-four years on the road. Started with Trans America In 1959 (Diamond Rio COE), moved to Trans Canada Hwy Express (KW/PB & Corn Binders), R&J Transport out of Detroit, from there, it's all a foggy memory. Yup, I have a collection of speeding tickets & three rig pile ups. In 1969 I woke up about a hundred yards out in a farmer's field in Kansas. I don't remember leaving the road but I do remember the broken ribs from the steering wheel and my co- laying on the floor with his ### sticking up in the air in front of the passenger seat.
