I had a TOUGH winter myself, not pulling OS/OD for that "off-brand" place... UPI. I'm "hanging on for a hero" .... myself, but then... it happens for me this time every year. Refusing the flatbed bs didn't help my "popularity..." methinks. Leme know... and reciprocal.

Typically, the additional costs involved in insurance and administrative headaches make the "back haul" just a big pain in the tukus.

We ran one way for over a decade. Only started back hauling a couple of years ago when we could bring our own feed back from a plant 20 miles from our drop, so we still don't need an MC number or additional insurance.

Thanks for all the input. I was just exploring a thought.

I do get paid full or empty.

Just seems wasteful to me. Seems like an opportunity could be had. Oh, well.

Guess I will just roll with it.

There's no opportunity to be had. You're just the company driver.

I don't see how you could make some extra cash on the return trip. Not legally anyways.

My guess. The company has already looked at the options.
They don't want the extra overhead(no pun) and administration costs and extra time for you to return.
Company truck expense is probably close to what it would cost to hire it out.

With employed driver, they control quality of service.

There MAY be an opportunity, with risk, they know you. They might give you a try if presented to them.
You buy your equipment. You make a few runs, equipment breaks. They hire another driver and you do......??
    Good luck.

NO. That's the kind of thinking that's realistic.

Your company/owner would have to approve a lease. Are you expecting to find your own freight on a backhaul without the owner's knowledge?

    inquire within your company
