I wonder if more and more will put driver facing cameras in. Obviously Swift concluded it wasn't a good idea. Whether it was due to recruitment/retention issues or otherwise you can be sure it was in large part a financial based decision. I would guess other companies will find the same to be true.
It's official...no inward facing drive cam starting tomorrow

It's just that it's there and well let's be honest if it's creepy and 1984ish because it's always recording yes yes I know it only saves when it critical event goes off. But it's always recording and always listening and honestly some people find it just downright creepy and disturbing..
Now does Swift have somebody down in the basement looking at drivers driving along without any critical events no.
But just the mere fact it's always listening always recording even when
your parked it's always recording always listening. Now for the younger drivers that are under 30 it won't bother them as much but anybody 40 or older I would guess that a lot think it's creepy and there's going to be people that ##### about it and if you don't see why then I don't know what to say
I mean that's why I left Swift I couldn't stand the camera so I quit I'm finally retired.mathematrucker, Chewey2 and tinytim Thank this. -
Then all of a sudden they announced they were going to be buying automatics. They were going to be adding collision avoidance systems. And worst of all, they were going to be installing driver facing cameras. I remember thinking what happened to driver retention?mathematrucker, Chewey2, ethos and 1 other person Thank this. -
Technology is only as honest as the person controlling it.
Mark Zuckerberg's laptop. Tape over the camera. Hmmm...Gearjammin' Penguin and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
But let me ask this....how many of the average, Joe Blow truck drivers are involved in national security issues? How many of your conversations involve overthrowing the government? (And I realize that I probably just used some keywords that is gonna alert some bored anylist somewhere, but no, I'm not planning anything). If you are truly worried about anyone spying on you, sell everything you own, especially electronic devises, and go live in a cave or an underground bunker. Because they don't need a company installed driver cam to spy on you. If you have a cell phone they can track, listen and watch everything you are doing and you'll never know.
It's a scary world we live in. And it's only going to get worse. -

I never claimed to be either for or against the cameras. Do I like them? No. As I've said before, it was the OUTWARD facing camera that got me fired. But as I've also said before, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to worry about. The last post was just to say that I do understand about technology, but that doesn't mean everyone needs to be paranoid. Drivers quitting a job because their company installed cameras, or buying new automatics like it's the end of trucking. Really?

And honestly I was contemplating getting out anyways because I'm retired army I get a paycheck if I worked or not. when my wife passed away 16 years ago. There was really nothing for me to stay at the house for so that's why I chose Trucking I could be by myself and left alone for the most part. And honestly I was just getting too old to do security work for Blackwater and triple canopy.
Is cameras or automatics the end of trucking no, I honestly liked the automatic I was testing for Swift before they went fully with them. But the cameras was a full dead stop for me.mathematrucker Thanks this. -
