If you want the correct info call them. Do not listen to other drivers.

I may give them a call, but I like regional not otr, so it might not be the best fit. I'll call them tomorrow and see what the deal is.

I did call and talked to one of the guys in charge. His name starts with a T.

He's the one that told me I would have to live their yard near Grand Forks after I asked if I could live in Bismarck.

In case anyone was still wondering...

I talked to them last week; going in for an interview this week. They’re small so there isn’t a lot to hear about them where I spend my time, but what I have heard they sound alright. The few times I’ve seen their trucks on the road in my neck of the woods, they look about as ready for a truck show as the pictures on their site make them look.

I was told the majority of their work is in the oil field (nd), and is scheduled as such (being gone for like a month at a time then having a week off, or similar). Sounds like the pay is legit, and one of the upsides to dragging propane around with one of their shiny trucks is no off-roading down muddy goat trails and throwing tire chains like one would have to hauling water or crude out there.

It sounded like a qualified guy could work for them living from wherever, so long as one wanted to stay there long enough at a time to make it worth traveling to and from grand forks where the truck gets parked at the end of a work rotation. I imagine if someone wanted to actually relocate to that area, home could be seen more often. I’m good not living in the oil field, though.

I’ll post again if I get the job (I’m not sure I could turn down the money if they offer me a spot, even with the being gone) or if I can answer anyone else’s questions...

I hope all is going well and you get the job. They didn't call me back probably because after I filled out the application they seen I had too many jobs. But I'm back in the patch up here fueling equipment getting almost a hundred hours a week.

Well, I did not get a new job. But it was more of a ‘some guy who used to work there called them over the weekend and they took him back’ sort a thing than a ‘they outright rejected me on my own merits’ sort of thing.

I met with the guy in the office anyway, talked for an hour or so. Said he’d let me know when they had an open truck again. So, I guess that sounds not so bad? I’d take it as a good sign that someone who quit wanted to work for them again.

It still sounds not so terrible, considering the money. I was shown a bunch of paystubs so I didn’t have to only take their word for it. I also like the sound of their method of payment, some sort of a flat rate rather than load specific percentages or mileage (and they have some hourly rates if ending up sitting and waiting over a set time). I haven’t heard of company drivers being paid like that; I assume it must not be a screwjob if that’s what the paychecks look like, and they were all representative of the average.

If I end up going there, I’ll post here again.

No. They still aren’t looking for anyone as of a couple weeks ago. Kind of going in the other direction; I’m about to take a local propane job. Bit of a pay cut from the current fuel hauling, but it’s union so it’s a big cut in hours too. Kind of looking forward to being done at 5 every day and seeing my kid during the week again. Can’t say I wouldn’t be tempted by a big paycheck if they ever called me, but it’s time for me to try the lesser pay/being around home more again for a while.

Random update after about forever for anyone still interested...

So last fall i did get sick of my fuel transport job, quit for a job at the local co-op and delivered propane over the winter with a bobtail. It was a solid decrease in hours, and there were some decent benefits (things i was looking for). But the pay kind of sucked, and all the slogging through snow and in and out of the truck a million times a day was murder on my knees. I was hoping that by the spring they’d be deciding on buying their own fuel transport (or several); they’ve been considering it for some time, i guess. That possibility was one of the reasons i took that job. Well, they had no more an answer to that question than when i started the year before and didn’t sound any closer to making up their mind, so i decided to try something else. I contacted hausmann again, and they were in the process of getting some additional trucks and hiring some more drivers, so i went there for their road test.

Apparently, the thing to know about that is being relatively comfortable with driving a big ol’ Pete with an 18 speed, and in particular being ok with shifting it (up and down) without the clutch. I was nervous because it’d been a minute since I’d been in a semi, and a few years since i’d last been in a big Pete with an 18 speed. But i remembered quick and the guy riding with me gave me the thumbs up after he let me know what he was looking for and i showed i was capable of doing things the way they want them done.

Even after all that, i wasn’t certain i was getting a new job and kind of put it out of my mind, mostly because my wife was feeling iffy about me being gone so much again. So i ended up taking a different job; wasn’t local but not OTR and put me in line for a local job. Well, the past couple months with that i ended up working more and making not quite as much as i was wanting to, and it’s been making me a little nuts for a lot of little reasons (i had forgotten just how much i hate severely governed trucks, and automatic transmissions, for instance...). So somewhere in there, hausmann lost my number changing computer systems or something and i eventually found an old email i didn’t catch right away, asking me if i was still interested, and i called them back and they still needed some guys. Long story short, i gave my notice to where i was (i don’t hate what i’ve been doing, but it was a misstep for me, what can i say) and i’m set to go work for hausmann in a few weeks.

Suppose i’ll update this again in a little bit. I’m looking forward to giving this a try and seeing what the paychecks are like. I’ll say this much, the truck i drove for my little driving test this spring had over a half-million miles on it, and unless you looked real close, you’d think it was brand new off the showroom floor. I’ve worked for one or two places in the past that took pretty good care of their stuff, but they look like a whole step up from anything i’ve seen previously in that regard.

I’d say i feel more optimistic than for most jobs i’ve taken, mostly for having seen a selection of paystubs last year, and since i first noticed a want-ad on craigslist however many years ago, they only seem to advertise a need for drivers a short time once, sometimes maybe twice a year, which seems to largely match their having slowly grown their fleet (as compared to some places that never don’t have an ad up looking for drivers).

To this point in my life, i don’t know what it’s like to get a job that I’ve been working towards for a couple years (this one specifically for at least a year, but a job like this for over two years now; last time i quit a non-trucking job i decided i needed to get myself the experience to get into something high-paying and specialized), and even on the low end of their claimed pay scale this will be more money than i’ve made to date. So i guess i’ll find out.

I suppose I’ll be #### sure to post a pic or two of the rig i’ll be driving; i’m not sure what specifically that is yet, but i’m looking forward to finding out.
