Any Expediters?

I am a O/O for an expediter trucking company out of Lafayette, La. We specalize in the oilfield industry.

 

What do you run? Parts and stuff for the oilfield? Do they have you on hold for JIT items needed? How much do they pay for you waiting, etc? Thanks!

 

Right now I'm driving a 97 CH613 Mack. Yeah everything we haul is used by offshore and onshore rigs and pipeline companies. We haul everything from pipe, and chemicals to all diffents types of machinery and parts(anything they need for the oilfield). We have so many drivers on a board, as the calls come in 1st person goes out then 2nd and so on, as you do a load you go back to the bottom of the list. As for waiting pay, once we get to the delivery location after the first hr of waiting we start charging $80 and hr. They dont usually keep us waiting because 90% of the time they need the equipment ASAP. I've only been in this business a couple yrs so if you could tell me what "JIT ITEMS" are I would appreciate it. If there is anything I left out or anything else you would like to know just ask, I'll be happy to share that with you.

 

I was noticing the pics you posted of standard expediter trucks. There is work in this field where we use a tradional tractor and trailer(flatbed and drop deck). That is what I use to haul oilfield epuipment.

 

JIT = Just in Time

 

There are different views of what the terms expediting and hot shot mean . Many consider oilfield work hot shot and companies like FedEX Custom Critical and Panther Expediting . Roberts Express pioneered time critical delivery and at the time that was called hot shot . Most people think of duallies with 32' to 48' trailers as hotshotters but many who consider themselves true hotshotters say LTL haulers with multiple deliveries , especially odd UShip are not hotshotters . A hot shot load should be a time critical load . For the most part whether they have a dually and trailer or expedite box truck they don't get paid to sit around and wait for loads . When they call though the expect an immediate response . Most expediting contractors have Qualcomms in their trucks and are expected to respond to a load offer within 15 minutes .

 

I have a class a cdl. Say I were to buy a truck what would be the most lucrative way expedite. I would like to be able to get onto a website from my truck and just pull up a list of loads that need to be hauled, where they are at, where they are going, gross weight, and what it pays. Is there anything like that out there and what is the average pay for a expeditor in a 32ft box truck?

 

Since expedite loads are time critical the shipper contacts a company like Panther or FedEx Custom Critical . The expedite company then notifies trucks that are closest to the shipper .
If you contact FedEx Custom Critical recruiting they will send you full info on last year's averages for all classes of trucks . This includes gross revenue , miles run , and availability .

 

hello...Thanks for the warm welcome..it has ben several weeks since I have been back. I have a question.....maybe someone knows the answer. We, myself and Dave (He is the owner-operator) are both retired and receive social security...Last Nov. we started driving for an expediating company as a team. This has turned out to be an expensive deal...as we have to pay workers compensation every week.If we do not make much money we still have the set amount deducted by the company....Any thoughts on why we have to pay workers comp, if we are retired. maryann
