I like CAT scales as much as the next guy, but occasionally I find myself too far away from one.
Just asking though: weren't there any "no-name" scales closer?
Usually, in any shipper's office, there is a (nearly illegible) photocopy of a map to the closest scale. Sure, the ComData card doesn't work there and I have to pay cash , but it is better than nothing.

I'm guessing that good trucker's atlas might have some info, but I've been out of the game too long to know for sure. -
If your leaving cali then avoid scale cross border slide wheels then you are legal and no waste of time.

I would have gone around the scales, that is almost a daily occurrence in Kalifornia for a multitude of reasons.

1000 pounds is three holes+-? From the long timers here, has anyone received a bridge law ticket in CA?

A guy that I worked with at May got one, but probably only because he (the driver) was quite a jerk.
The problem was that not all of their trailers had the 40' mark, and the Officer "guesstimated" the measurement. If the driver had just been a bit more civil, he probably wouldn't have gotten dinged. -
And I agree with post #11. Sometimes, a no-name scale will have to do. There probably was one close by. If it was remotely accurate (and they usually are in high-traffic locales), things may have turned out differently. -

Check out the categories section. Rest should be self explanatory.
That said. HAVE had occasion to run Cali a couple holes off before, just to get load done. Do not like doing it, but on rare situation have done so. Run as far back as 9th on couple occasions. You DO takes you chances on that, though. LOL
Depending on make of trailer & how new, you may want to check actual length measurements. Have had some trailers where 7th hole actually met legal lenghth requirements.
Could be a time that a fifth wheel adjustment, combined with that may save the day for you. (Or several days).
Sorry to hear how things went for you. Here's to wishing you a better experience on your next go round.
