No ,the real driver will not survive. They will change the job before the impact same as me or they will go bankrupt. Yes, this is the true. If the rates go up is ok but where is the time with the family.Where is the time with your friends after 10-14 day on the road. 10 days on the road then 34 hours at 150 miles away from your home then you get home for another minimum 34 hours to be able to have a new restart if not you will have another 2 day in the middle of nowhere ....alone. when I was young guess what I drove 1000 miles a day almost every day. Guess what I never had an accident. Never in my life touch drug .Not me but a lot of you did ,Do you now why ? Because I am from Europe and very educated not like you. All my respect for real Americans who wanna make a living from this job and provide for them family, but is to late.Take my advice ,change your job. 5 years ago I talked to a marine soldier who start working for Schneider. I asked him how much was his weekly check. The answer was $500. 500 is a MC Donald job. Lot of those drivers drive for food and gambling. If they make 2000 a week they spend 2000. They hate people with family people who get a life. All of those who want the ELD are not drivers . You can not trust them to deliver a load in time. Chicago to west coast is 5 days for them . Yes for me was 2 days.Yes I drove over hours but in the last 10 years I drove a lot and almost legal on paper just 2 logbooks not 3 or 4. I never drove tired in the last 5 years. I got at least 7 hours or more of deep sleep . With your logbook you will have 3. Looking for parking you will be over the hours and guess what....violation .What else you wanna know. This will be a reality. Every one will run for pick-up then 14 hours later they run for parking. Welcome to the mess.

European companies pay better then Swift etc etc. A driver make 45 to 53 cents or more .Another point is they make over $6000 a month. Don't be smart. The real point is they are not drug addicts . Clear ?

European and American cultures are different.

Europe might pay their drivers 6 grand a month which is money no one working as a company driver will never see. 4 grand something at most after taxes. I myself was at 6 grand net as a trainer, but to be honest FFE paid me that much to make sure spouse was trained to their standards so that she will be a team driver with me as intended. What they really saw was that she was to become a trainer herself. That was not going to happen.

Family is subjective. I know my family line for the most part. One tree branch goes back to Napoleon's time at Hesse_Kessel. At that point the European Coalition including Russia had just defeated Napoleon at a place called Waterloo. The family was confronted with a collasped economy as was hundreds of thousands of others in the Kurfurst area of Germany during the 1820's Recovering from war to peace and try to rebuild from nothing was nothing. The State offered tickets to almost a million Citizens in Kurfurst to choose either Ukraine or America. About 130,000 went to America because there you can build a new world. A new life. Buy a home, raise a family and continue on to prosper. We had just settled a war with Britian (1814 or so) and was established for the time a new Nation that can continue.

You come out of a europe that had nothing. Go into the new world that literally have had anything you wanted to do in life for yourself. Anything at all. If you were not a lazy worker you did well. Best of all, you were free. No prince or ruling family to say this or that and kowtow to. It is literally just you, your family that you were raising and Uncle Sam with our Laws.

Fast forward to trucking. After world war one, we discovered that Mack and other trucks were good vehicles and suddenly we can benefit from trucking in America. Europe has trucking too, but more of a Nation State situation. Within say Spain, Or inside France or inside Germany etc. Not a very large and wild unsettled frontier during the 1900's the world wars devastated europe. They had to rebuild twice from nothing. We did not. For the most part. We have not suffered at home the losses where cities were turned into a moonscape as europe has done.

Fast forward to today. The economy requires trucking to be a expense that has to be made cheaper. That means bringing in a Immigrant from arab lands or europe that will work and eat for .25 a mile versus paying me or some experienced old American driver .50, 60 or even more per mile. You can fill two, three trucks of immigrant drivers and make twice or three times the money on the cost of one .60 cent driver like me for example. This is for company drivers.

Eventually the company driver will go away and be replaced by a computer that does the work. We have had discussions against such a monster that will not work well in the United States. A Otto Truck against say Cabbage in winter or some other mountain situation will have to chain up. There will be no human chaining that tractor trailer. You are not going to hire a human to man a chain up point to sit there and chain ottos for 15.00 a hour or whatever minimum wage set by our Government. The higher you make our minimum wage, two of three workers will have a job. Make the wage higher, only one of three workers will still have a job. Businesses must cut costs. Increase payroll, they cut employees. It's that simple.

Now... before you think it's horrible, consider this.

Switzerland considered last year a basic pernament income for all men, women and children. You would recieve X amount of money per month for life from the state the moment you were born to death. The idea is that Robots are being taxed as citizen workers were once taxed. Robots don't stop working, they keep working 24/7. No sleep no rest no breaks. One worker can maintain a whole factory with a thousand robots that never stop. Taxing them as citizens becomes a sort of socailist advantage for a state determined to keep revolt and unrest down by handing a citizen a pay each month because everyone has bills to pay in life. IF they are not free because there is no money and no work etc then the state will be overthrown. There will be no more switzerland. What will happen next would be either a Chinese corporation moving in and buying up everything, evicting the european and just moving in a few workers to man the robots on the line. You will see a people lose their country entirely.

In America, you cannot really buy out and evict the people who think they are free to do as they please. You will literally have to get rid of every single American before there is any chance. If you had millions of robots doing jobs that I did earlier in life and can no longer do, that is one thing. But if my children had NO work to do because the robots did it all to feed a growing global economy then there is no more America. It's so easy.

Whatever the problem of economics, NYC still has to get tractor trailers by the thousands every day to get the food and things that 10 to 20 million people depend on not to go hungry. They cannot really drive 10 miles to the country and buy it from the farmer at the vegatable stand. Those days are gone pretty much. They have to depend on California to grow something and depend on Asia to make the coffeepots etc and Europe to make other things that they need for living. Our loss is overseas benefit.

I can say we need to go back to Isolationism prior to ww1 and say that we make everything here at home for whatever we need in life. That's all well and wonderful. But you cannot pay an American 30.00 a hour anymore to work a factory line making coffee pots that cost 10.00. What you can do is build a robot and have it make a fancy kureig coffee pot that costs 100.00 to pay for the robot technology etc. You are not going to be selling that to a American who has no job now. Thankfully you can ship that new coffee pot overseas to a people who now have jobs and can buy nice things. Until those peoples become like America and use Robots themselves or find immigrants from say Africa or something to work on the factory line for very little money.

Finally but not least. Our Economy suffers from a loss each month. If you consider Amazon, go online and buy something and it will be shipped to you. You do not have to go to stores anymore and buy it. So the stores must close. That is over. Eventually only Amazon is in existance. They can only use 100 trucks in a region to do it all. No longer will say a city full of stores use 10,000 trucks in a region. All of that goes away.

What do you think will happen if someday Amazon stops and they go away too? Especially if the handful of very large companies who control our internets, our media, our entertainment etc all go away because the American cannot make a dollar to pay those costs? Maybe they no longer have to when it is issued to them by the State as a so called human right. Talk about twisting basic rights. That is another can of worms.

If you count the entire day, it's possible. There are still 3 hours available after 11 on and 10 off.

My best is 721 miles on e logs in a 71mph truck. And parked with 20 minutes of drive time left that day. I did do 681 in a 63mph truck once too.

It don't have anything to do with on duty .its all about tracking all truckers in the country and knowing where all truck drivers been. They need this because their are a lot of bad people out here that need to be watched.

Ya man! We should all get chipped so we can be watched at all times! Heck, we should test DNA and lock up anyone who's sequence shows them prone for violence.
I'm gonna go out in a limb here and say that truckers are probably pretty close to the rest of civilization, statistically. Truckers aren't serial killers although, some have been truckers. But, mandating ELDs for this reason just opens the door to tighten the screws on the rest of the population. And this is AMERICA, where we bare arms for those who try and revoke these rights. Plus, probably not going to be the most useful of tools. That's ALOT of data to comb through.
How about we complain but agree it's for HOS compliance. :)
