I have my Atlas all marked up with the ones that have the old digital scales that you can see, I hardly ever turn down a free scale, open or closed, green light or not just cause I like to know how close I am at assuming what my drives air gage and butt are telling me. I have my stuff together so am not worried about getting pulled in for an inspection anyway.
Schneider and Swift must be hiring illiterate drivers.

There are scales marked closed. And per prepass and swift. If you get read you still have to pull in. I have only had this happen once. And dot was in the scale house

If the last sign says closed and I get a red, I pass on by
If the neon says pull in, but I get a green, I pass on by.
Never had a problem
But I have watched my mirrors for flashing blue.
Whether it's a green or a closed sign, one positive is enough for me to over ride any negatives. -
When I'm hauling hazmat and Arkansas or Arizona give me a green I pull in anyway cuz it's the law
But they always seem aggravated that I pulled in. -

I get the red light on pre pass in Oregon all the time. I always blow by the scale when the sign says closed. Even done with an officer sitting there watching. I have never been chased down or sent a ticket/fine.
A few days ago on US287 south of Dumas, Tx, the south bound scale had DOT doing inspections. Got to the sign and it said closed, so, I drove by. And people were still pulling in to volunteer for inspection.
Closed is closed regardless of what prepass says. Can't be fined for bypassing a closed scale.
